#2 St. Cloud State Rolls to 6-3 Win at #17 Denver

Denver, Colo. - The #2 St. Cloud State University men's hockey team (12-2-3, 7-1-1-0 NCHC) continued its winning ways on the road with a big 6-3 victory at #17 University of Denver (10-7-4, 4-4-1-1 NCHC) on Friday, January 10 in Denver, Colo.
The victory was SCSU's ninth consecutive road win of the 2013-14 season, which sets a new team record for most consecutive wins on the road. The Huskies' previous best was an eight-game road run during the 2001-02 season.
The win also kept the Huskies on top of the National Collegiate Hockey Conference with 22 points, while North Dakota stands in second place with 18 points after tonight's action. SCSU was still ranked third in the Pairwise and RPI rankings after the win over DU tonight.
Denver broke the ice early with a goal by Will Butcher at 1:44 of the opening period on a solo assist from Gabe Levin. The Huskies tied the contest at 7:31 of the first period when Jimmy Murray scored his second goal of the season with assists from Joey Benik and Nic Dowd.
The Huskies stepped up in the second period with an even-strength goal by Andrew Prochno at 3:31 as Morley recorded the lone assist on the play, which was Prochno's third goal of the season. Morley pushed the Huskies' lead to 3-1 with his fifth marker of the campaign at 13:54 of the second period. Daniel Tedesco added his fourth assist of the season on the play.
To cap the second period, Joey LaLeggia made it 3-2 with a goal at 17:31 with assists from Trevor Moore and Quentin Shore.
SCSU then posted three unanswered goals in the third period to bring home the victory. The scoring barrage opened at 1:52 of the final period with a power play marker by Dowd, which included assists from Morley and Prochno.
The goal was Dowd's 10th of the season and it was his fifth power play goal of 2013-14. He now has 98 career points during his collegiate tenure with the Huskies. Morley ended the night with one goal and two assists and he now paces the club with 12 assists this season. The goal was also Dowd's team-leading fourth game-winner of the season. He ranks second in the nation for most game winners in 2013-14.
Jonny Brodzinski then made it 5-2 with an even-strength goal at 13:29 of the third period as the lone assist on the play was marked by Kevin Gravel. Brodzinski finished SCSU's scoring at 17:31 of the third period with a power play goal on assists from Gravel and Murray. Brodzinski's season totals include 10 goals and 18 points while Gravel now has eight assists in 2013-14.
Denver ended the scoring with a goal at 19:01 of the third period by Nolan Zajac on assists from Grant Arnold and Zac Larraza, which made the final 6-3.
In the game, Denver outshot the Huskies 32-31. SCSU netminder Ryan Faragher made 29 saves in the contest and his season record moved to 11-2-2 thanks to the victory. DU goalie Sam Brittain (10-6-3) had 25 saves in the nets for the Pioneers. The six goals were the most allowed by Brittain in a game during the 2013-14 season.
On the power, SCSU was 2-of-6 and Denver was 0-of-3.
