
#2 Huskies on the Road to #17 Denver

The #2 St. Cloud State University (11-2-3, 6--1-1 NCHC) men's hockey team will travel to #17 University of Denver (10-6-4, 4-3-1 NCHC) on Friday, Jan. 10 and Saturday, Jan. 11 for a pair of NCHC games at Magness Arena in Denver, Colo. (6,026 cap./200x85). The game on Jan. 10 is slated to start at 8:37 p.m. (CT) and the game on Jan. 11 is scheduled to begin at 8:07 p.m. (CT).

6:07 START ON JAN. 17: The Huskies will return to the Brooks Center on Jan. 17-18 for NCHC games against Western Michigan. Please remember that the game on Friday, Jan. 17 will start at 6:07 p.m. since this is a game scheduled to air on the CBS Sports Network. Fans are encouraged to wear RED for the game since this game will also be a Coborn's Red Out Game at the Brooks Center. HUSKIES vs. GOPHERS: With SCSU and Minnesota in seperate conferences this year, your guaranteed chance to see the Huskies take on the Gophers will take place in the semifinal round of the North Star College Cup on Jan. 24 at the Xcel Energy Center in downtown St. Paul. This four-game tournament featuring four of Minnesota's Division I collegiate programs will run on Jan. 24-25 at the Xcel. Tickets are just $80 for the complete tournament package, which includes all four games. SKATE WITH THE HUSKIES: Stick around after the game on Jan. 18 for the Wolters Kluwer Financial Servies Skate with the Huskies event. Fans will have an opportunity to skate on the ice at the Brooks Center with the Huskies after the finish of the SCSU-WMU game on Jan. 18. This is a great way to meet your favorite SCSU hockey players and get a chance to skate on the rink where the Huskies play. The game on Jan. 18 will also be $1.00 hot dog night at the concession stands and admission for the games on Jan. 17-18 will only be $15.
REPRESENTING THE USA: SCSU head coach Bob Motzko was in Malmo, Sweden last week along with Team USA at the 2014 IIHF World Junior Men's Championships. Motzko was serving as an assistant coach for Team USA at the World Juniors.
HUSKY LEADER: Senior Nic Dowd leads SCSU this winter with nine goals. He has played in 133 career games at SCSU and currently has 39 goals and 57 assists as a Husky. He has 96 career points and needs just four more points to join the Huskies' 100-point club. He would be the 25th Husky (all games played at the Division I level) to join SCSU's 100-point club. Dowd serves as a team captain for the Huskies and is a two-time All-WCHA Academic award winner.
EXHIBITION SHOWCASE: The Huskies scored an 8-0 win over the U.S. National Team Development Program U18 squad on Jan. 4. Sophomore Joey Benik led the charge for the Huskies with three goals and one assist in the contest. Kalle Kossila added three assists in the game, while Nic Dowd (1g/1a), Jonny Brodzinski (1g/1a) and Jimmy Murray (2a) also had two points apiece in the shutout win against the NTDP U18 squad. In the nets, Ryan Faragher (7 saves) and Charlie Lindgren (13 saves) combined for the shutout win for the Huskies.
GOAL STREAK: Joey Benik brings a two game goal scoring streak into the series at Denver. Benik has two goals and one assist in his last two outings. If you combine his exhibition game night against the NTDP squad, Benik has five goals and two assists in his last three times on ice. In 40 games played at SCSU, Benik has 13 goals and 11 assists.
GREAT GOALIE: Goalie Ryan Faragher continues his move up the records list at SCSU after three seasons of play for the Huskies. In 2013-14, Faragher owns a 2.08 goals against average and a .922 save rate. He has posted 342 saves and a 10-2-2 record. In his career, Faragher already ranks third in the team record with 43 wins and he ranks seventh in the team records with 1952 saves. Faragher's career goals against average stands at 2.39 and his career save percentage stands at .916.
SCSU IN THE TOP FOUR: The Huskies rank fourth in the nation on defense with an average of 2.00 goals allowed per game. Of note, Denver ranks third on the same list with an average of 1.95 goals allowed per game...On offense, the Huskies rank ninth in the nation with an average of 3.50 goals per game this season...SCSU ranks third in the nation with a .781 winning rate this season at 11-2-3.
HUSKY NEWS AND NOTES: Jonny Brodzinski paces the Huskies this season with 16 points (8g/8a). He needs one more point to hit 50 career points as a Husky. Brodzinski currently has 30 goals and 19 assists in 58 games played at SCSU...David Morley leads the Huskies this winter with 10 assists. He currently ranks third on the team with 14 points this winter... Junior defender Andrew Prochno has 55 career assists, which places him sixth in the team records for most career assists by a defenseman. Current team assistant coach Garrett Raboin ranks fifth on that list with 62 helpers posted from 2006-10...the Huskies have eight players with 10-or-more points scored in 2013-14...Nic Dowd paces the Huskies this season with three game winning goals...SCSU is off to one of its best starts in team history at the DI level with its 11-2-3 overall record after 16 games. The best 16-game start for SCSU was a 13-2-1 run to begin the 2001-02 campaign.
PAIRWISE HUSKIES: In the pairwise rankings on Jan. 8, the Huskies were ranked third behind number one Minnesota and number two Boston College. In the USCHO.com KRACH rankings, SCSU was ranked second behind number one Minnesota. The Huskies are looking to maintain their national rankings with hopes of gaining another NCAA tournament bid. SCSU has earned NCAA tournament bids in 1989, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2007, 2008, 2010 and 2013. The Huskies advanced to the NCAA Frozen Four for the first time in team history during the 2013 season.
