SCSU Women's Basketball Drops to Augustana, 70-79

St. Cloud, Minn. – The St. Cloud State women's basketball team hosted Augustana College this evening in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) match-up. The Huskies dropped to the Vikings with a final score of 70-79.
The Huskies drop to 10-5 overall and 6-5 in conference play. Augustana improves to 11-7 overall and 5-6 in the NSIC.
St. Cloud State trailed Augustana throughout the first half only to have Nicole Wittman make a crucial three to tie it up (24-24) with 4:52 left in the first. The score went back and forth between the teams until St. Cloud State took the lead with Amanda Christianson scoring from the field and Carly Jeffery making a three with under a minute left (35-30). The St. Cloud State Huskies just weren't able to hold their lead falling to the Vikings 70-79. Augustana finished with 13 steals compared to the Huskies eight. The Vikings also outrebounded the St. Cloud 39-30. SCSU shot 48.2% from the field while the Vikings shot 42.6%.
Junior forward Lexy Petermann (Fond du Lac, Wis.) led all players with 27 points. Petermann made 12 of 18 from the field.
Junior forward Nicole Wittman (Hutchinson, Minn.) ended with 10 points, three rebounds and one assist.
Karissa LeCaptain (Algoma, Wis.) finished with 8 points and three rebounds.
Nicole Kerkhoff led Augustana with 20 points and nine rebounds.
St. Cloud State will return to action tomorrow as they host #24 Wayne State at 4 p.m. The Wildcats are currently 14-3 overall and 8-3 in the NSIC. Wayne State is coming off a win over Minnesota Duluth this evening (91-53).
