Huskies softball season ends in 9-1 loss to Sioux Falls in NSIC/U.S. Bank Tournament

Sioux Falls, S.D. -- The 2015 St. Cloud State softball season came to an end in a 9-1 loss to the University of Sioux Falls in day two of the NSIC/U.S. Bank Softball Tournament held at Sherman Park in Sioux Falls, S.D.
The Huskies finish the season with a 30-27 overall record and the first 30-win season since 2008. The University of Sioux Falls improved to 31-22 overall and will continue play in the double elimination tournament against Wayne State.
The University of Sioux Falls proved to be the Huskies biggest challenge as the Cougars defeated St. Cloud State twice in the tournament. The eighth seeded Huskies and ninth seeded Cougars opened the tournament Thursday morning and the Cougars posted a come from behind 8-4 victory. St. Cloud State rebounded with a 2-1 win over Upper Iowa which set up the re-match with Sioux Falls.
The Cougars were the first to score putting three runs on the board in the top of the second inning. Alyson Netty with an rbi single, Leah Husemoen hit an rbi double and Brooke Steltzer singled in a run. A Betsy Thomas two-run home run and an Alyson Netty rbi double provided the scoring for USF in the third inning to give the Cougars a 6-0 lead.
St. Cloud State scored its lone run in the bottom of the third inning. A single by Veronica Wold followed by an Emma Hodges double set up an Alyssa Coletto sacrifice that scored Wold.
Sioux Falls added two runs in the fourth on a Shannon Daly double and scored a run in the fifth on a wild pitch.
The Huskies finished the game with five hits from five different players. Taige Thoreson had the only extra base hit for the Huskies, a double. Senna Francesconi was the pitcher of record for the Huskies. She pitched two innings, giving up five runs and striking out four batters. Megan Hedstrom, in relief, pitched three innings, giving up five hits and four runs.
Brooke Stetzler was three-for-three with an rbi and Netty went two-for-three with two rbi's to lead the Cougars offense.
