SCSU Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Team Chosen Fourth; Women Picked for Eighth in NSIC Preseason Coaches Poll

Huskies Start The Outdoor Season at Vance Butler Invite This Weekend
BURNSVILLE, Minn. – The St. Cloud State men's outdoor track & field program was picked to place fourth, while the women's team is expected to finish eighth in the annual 2015-16 NSIC Outdoor Track & Field Preseason Coaches' Poll, the league office announced this afternoon.
The men's team garnered 86 points to finish tied for fourth place of the 12 competing teams in the league behind Minnesota State, Augustana and MSU Moorhead. The Huskies are tied in the polls with Sioux Falls. Minnesota State was the top voter getter in the poll with 11 first-place tallies.
The SCSU women's team picked up 106 points to place tied for eighth of the 15 teams in the NSIC. The order of predicted finish was Minnesota State, Augustana, Minnesota Duluth, University of Mary, Winona State, MSU Moorhead, Northern State, Sioux Falls, St. Cloud State, Concordia St. Paul, Wayne State, Southwest Minnesota State, Minot State, Bemidji State and Upper Iowa. Minnesota State earned eight of the 14 first-place votes to just edge out Augustana's seven first place votes.
St. Cloud State's men's outdoor track & field athletes to watch are sophomore Isaiah Pitchford in the 400m dash and junior Keyshawn Davis in jumps. Isaiah Pitchford was All-NSIC in the 400m dash (49.38) during the 2016 indoor season in earning a victory at the conference championships. Pitchford was also part of the 4x400 relay team that won their event in a time at of 3:20.06 to earn a team championship during the 2016 indoor season. Davis placed third in the triple jump and achieved All-NSIC status during the indoor season with his leap of 14.61m. He placed in the top five in the triple jump four times during indoor season. Additionally, Davis also placed in the top three in the long jump seven times during indoor season including event victories seven times. He had a long of 7.29m at the SDSU Indoor Challenge.
The SCSU women that earned NSIC recognition on the athletes to watch list are junior Sam Sunstrom in the distance and sophomore Natalie Gottschalk in jumps/multis. Sunstrom finished fifth in the conference during indoor season in the 5,000m. She also placed 11th in the 3,000m in a season-best run of 10:11.44. Sunstrom earned a pair of event wins in the 3,000m throughout the 2016 indoor campaign. Gottschalk finished seventh in the conference meet in pentathlon during indoor season with 3,390 points. She also had the team's best marks in the 60m hurdles (9.51) and the high jump (1.63m) during the indoor season.
