PITTSBURG. Kansas – St. Cloud State senior thrower Ryan Johnson ended up placing 13th nationally in the weight throw at the 2016 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championship on March 11 in Pittsburg, Kansas at the Robert W. Plaster Center.
Johnson's first throw of the day was an 18.14m/59'6.25". He fouled on his second attempt and improved to an 18.56m/60'10.75" on the third throw, but it was not enough to be one of the top nine that advanced to the finals.
The winner of the event was Jordan Crayon of Ashland, who had a throw of 21.81m.71'6.75". Central Missouri's Caniggia Raynor placed second with his throw of 21.59m/70'10. Finishing in third was Darien Thorton of Grand Valley State with his toss of 20.91m/68'7.25"
St. Cloud State's Patience Yalartai competes in the triple jump on Saturday evening, March 12, at 5:10 p.m. The top nine of the 18 that qualified for nationals in the triple jump this season advance to the finals of the event with the chance to then earn an NCAA individual championship. Yalartai currently ranks 29th nationally in the event and placed second at the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Indoor Track and Field Championships with her season best and all-conference jump of 12.02m. She has placed in the top two of the triple jump in four different meets this season.
