SCSU Has Eight Individuals and Relay Team Earn All-Conference Recognition On Second Day of NSIC Indoor Track and Field Championships

Elijah Pitchford sets school and meet record in winning the triple jump

MANKATO, Minn. – St. Cloud State's indoor track and field programs had eight individuals earn all-conference selection with top-three finishes plus one relay team achieve NSIC All-Conference status with an event victory on the final day of competition at the Northern Sun Intercollegiate on Saturday, Feb. 27, at Myers Fieldhouse. Over the course of the two days of competition SCSU had 11 individual all-conference selections in addition to the relay team achieving the honor. The men's team finished in third-place in the two-day event with 95 points, while the women placed in seventh with 37 points.
Freshman Elijah Pitchford won the triple jump on the men's side with his school record leap of 14.97m. His mark bettered the previous school record set by George Kimbrough in 1995. His 14.97m was also a new meet record in the NSIC. Elijah Pitchford's mark also bettered his previous NCAA Provisional Qualifying mark. His junior teammate junior Keyshawn Davis also recorded an NCAA Provisional Qualifying mark and NSIC All-Conference honors in placing third in the event (14.61m).
Sophomore Isaiah Pitchford won the 400m dash with his time of 49.38. His junior teammate JoVonte Suber was the runner-up in the event (49.41) to also earn all-conference distinction.
The 4x400 relay team of sophomore Marcus Welk, Suber, freshman Wezley Turner and Isaiah Pitchford won their event in a time of 3:20.06.
Junior Patience Yalartai finished as the runner-up in the triple jump for her second all-conference selection of the meet. Her jump of 12.02m was also a season-best and NCAA Provisional Qualifying mark.
Redshirt junior Cassie Cardinal recorded a season-best throw and an NCAA Provisional Qualifying mark with her third place all-conference throw in the shot put (13.94m).
Senior Ryan Johnson won the shot put with his throw of 16.03m. His throw was a season-best toss and also achieved NCAA Provisional Qualifying standards as well. Junior Quinn Anderson also had a season-best toss of 15.97 in the shot put to place second in the event with his NCAA Provisional Qualifying mark.
Those that qualified from each team will compete in the NCAA Indoor Championships in Pittsburgh, Kansas on March 11-12.
