Outdoor Track & Field Has Strong Performance at Vance Butler Memorial Invitational

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The St. Cloud State outdoor track and field programs had several standout individual performances in its first outdoor meet of the season at the 2016 Vance Butler Memorial Invitational, hosted by the Augustana University on Sunday, April 3, at Howard Wood Field.

The two teams had nine top three-finishes, an event win and two NCAA outdoor provisional qualifying marks achieved.
Among the highlights were junior Jasmine Grant placing second in the 400m dash (59.01).

Sophomore Isaiah Pitchford also finished as the runner-up in the 400m dash (49.57).

Senior Ryan Johnson won the men's hammer throw with a 56.79m/186'04". The mark was an NCAA outdoor provisional qualifying mark. Johnson also placed second in the men's discus with a 48.23m/159'06" and seventh in the shot put (14.55m/47'09.00")
Senior Heather Clankie placed second in the hammer throw for the women (46.21m/151'07). The throw was also an NCAA provisional qualifying mark.

Senior Rafael Saez finished second in the men's discus (48.61m/159'06). Saez also finished third in the shot put (14.77m/48'05.50).
Junior Patience Yalartai finished in third in the long jump (5.68m/18'07.75).
Junior Keyshawn Davis placed as the runner up in the long jump for the men (6.97m/22'08.50).Â
Both outdoor track & field programs resume competition next week at the USF Open on April 9 in Sioux Falls, S.D. The team will also send a delegation to the MIAA-NSIC Challenge for the Heptathlon and the Decathlon on April 7-8.
