Patience Yalartai and Ryan Johnson Competing at NCAA Division II Championships This Weekend

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – St. Cloud State's indoor track and field program is represented by two athletes, junior Patience Yalartai and senior Ryan Johnson, at the 2016 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships from March 11-12 in Pittsburg, Kansas at the Robert W. Plaster Center. Pittsburg State University and the Crawford County Convention & Visitors Bureau will serve as co-hosts of the championships. Portions of the championships will be streamed live on NCAA.com.

Yalartai represents the St. Cloud State women's program in the triple jump. She currently ranks 29th nationally in the event and placed second at the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Indoor Track and Field Championships with her season best and all-conference jump of 12.02m. Yalartai has placed in the top two of the triple jump in four different meets this season.
Yalartai begins her competition on Saturday evening, March 12, at 5:10 p.m. in event number 29. She competes in the first of two flights of the event. The top nine of the 18 that qualified nationally in the triple jump this season advance to the finals of the event with the chance to earn an NCAA individual championship.
Johnson represents the St. Cloud State men's indoor program in the weight throw. He currently ranks 34th nationally in the event with his toss of 19.41m at the Snowshoe Open. Johnson has twice been named the NSIC Indoor Field Male Athlete of the Week this season. He has also placed in the top five of the weight throw in six different meets this season including four event victories. He finished second in the weight toss at the NSIC Indoor Track & Field Championships.
Johnson throws on Friday afternoon, March 11, at 2:10 p.m. in event number 34. He competes in the first of two flights among the 18 athletes that qualified nationally in the event this season. The top nine finishers in the weight throw advance to the finals with the chance to earn an NCAA individual championship
The NSIC will send 39 student-athletes, 25 women and 14 men, to compete at the championships this weekend.
