St. Cloud State University women's ends season with 5-2 loss to USF

The St. Cloud State University women's tennis team ended its 2016 season with a 5-2 loss to the University of Sioux Falls in first round play at the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference tennis championships in Minnetonka, Minn. on Saturday, April 23.
The loss knocks the Huskies out of competition in the single-elimination NSIC tournament, which will wrap up on Sunday, April 24 at the Oakdale Lifetime Fitness Tennis Club in Minnetonka. Â In the other first round matches, Upper Iowa gained a 5-1 win over Bemidji State and defending NSIC champion Augustana posted a 5-0 win over U-Mary. Â The final match of the day featured Minnesota State Moorhead against Minnesota State Mankato. Â The two semi's and championship match will take place on April 24.
USF opened its match against the Huskies with wins at second double and third doubles, while SCSU duo of Abby Kantor and Marilla Roque Diversi earned a 9-7 win at first doubles against USF.
In singles action, Sioux Falls collected wins at second singles, fourth singles and sixth singles to clinch the victory. Â The match was declared over once one of the team reached a total of five wins in the match. Â SCSU lone victory in singles play was posted by Roque Diversi who scored a 7-5, 7-4 win over USF's Emily Erickson. Â The complete results from the match are listed below.
SCSU ends its 2016 season with a 12-9 overall record. Â In NSIC play, the Huskies placed third in the regular season standings with an 8-3 record. Â
