Broadwell and Chapman compile third set singles victories
Sartell, MN. – St. Cloud State Tennis (3-11, 1-8 NSIC) were defeated 5-2 in a hard-fought match against Minnesota Crookston Friday afternoon. Brooklyn Broadwell and Gibby Chapman each produced a third set singles win.
Doubles
With only four Huskies available to compete, UMC would get a forfeit win at the No. 3 doubles spot. Lara-Maria Schaefer and Margarita Vinichenko would tie up the round with a 6-3 win in the No. 1 spot. In a tight match in the No. 2 spot, the Golden Eagles would come away with a 7-5 win to lead 1-0.
Singles
Moving into singles play, Minnesota Crookston would add two more forfeit wins to lead 3-0. They would come away with wins in the No. 2 and No. 1 positions as they clinched the match. In the No. 3 spot, Brooklyn Broadwell would open with a 7-5 win in her first set before she dropped the second set 6-0. Broadwell would come away with a 10-7 win in the third set to put the first point on the board for SCSU. In the final match of the day, Gibby Chapman would rally from a first set loss to take the second set 7-5. She would again rally in the third set after trailing by multiple points to win 10-8 and finalize the score at 5-2.
Notables
- St. Cloud State is now 24-3 all-time against Minnesota Crookston.
- Lara-Maria Schaefer and Margarita Vinichenko came away with their first doubles win as a duo and are 1-0. Schaefer improved to 8-6 with a 5-4 record against the NSIC while Vinichenko is now 3-11.
- Brooklyn Broadwell captured her 11th singles win of the season and is 11-3 with a 6-3 mark against the NSIC. This was her second third set win on the year.
- Gibby Chapman produced her fourth singles win of the season and is 4-10. This was also her second third set win.
