Huskies Capture First Win With 5-2 Victory Over Minnesota Duluth

SCSU takes doubles point
Duluth, MN. – St. Cloud State Tennis (1-3, 1-1 NSIC) won their first match of the season Sunday afternoon as they defeated Minnesota Duluth 5-2. The Huskies took the doubles point and then tacked on singles wins in four of the six matches.
Doubles
UMD would open the match by taking the first match in the No. 3 spot by score of 6-2. The Huskies would respond with a 6-2 victory of their own as Lara-Maria Schafer and Liliana Ruy Sánchez Mendivil came out victorious in the No. 1 spot. To secure the doubles point, Gibby Chapman and Brooklyn Broadwell tallied a 6-3 victory in the No. 2 spot. This was the first time that St. Cloud State took the doubles point this season.
Singles
Moving into singles play, the Bulldogs would tie the match with a victory in the No. 4 spot. Schaefer retook the lead for the Huskies with a straight set win in the No. 3 spot. Margarita Vinichenko followed with a straight set win of her own as SCSU took a commanding 3-1 lead. Sánchez Mendivil would secure the victory for the Huskies with a 7-5, 6-2 win in the No. 1 spot. Broadwell added the fourth straight set singles win as the score would be finalized at 5-2 in favor of St. Cloud State.
