
Lee and Sue Wahl Storbeck to receive NSIC's Noel Olson Volunteer of the Year Award

BURNSVILLE, Minn. - Lee Storbeck and Sue Wahl Storbeck of St. Cloud, Minnesota will be honored with the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference's Noel Olson Volunteer of the Year Award during the 18th annual NSIC Hall of Fame Banquet on Tuesday, July 11 at the Best Western Premier in Burnsville, Minnesota.
The Noel Olson Volunteer of the Year Award recognizes the singular commitment of former NSIC coach and Athletic Administrator Noel Olson and his advancement of NSIC visibility, credibility, and excellence throughout the nation during his tenure in the league. The award is intended to honor individuals who, as volunteers, have made significant contributions to the NSIC as a whole. On a periodic basis, one or more individuals receive the award in appreciation of efforts to support the NSIC activities and/or athletic programs within any NSIC member institution(s) or the NSIC conference office. The award recipients are nominated by each of the NSIC's 16 institutions and selected by the NSIC Hall of Fame Committee.
2016-17 Noel Olson Award Recipients
Lee Storbeck and Sue Wahl Storbeck - St. Cloud State University
A graduate and former standout athlete at St. Cloud State University, Sue Wahl Storbeck and her husband Lee Storbeck have helped play a major role in the success of Huskies athletics. Long-time benefactors of the SCSU athletic program, Sue and Lee's contributions have helped many programs and projects on the campus at St. Cloud State, including the creation of the Sue Wahl-Storbeck Women's Athletics Scholarship and the SCSU Coaches Legacy Scholarship (Lee and Sue established the endowed fund and were the lead volunteers who helped raise more than $100,000 beyond their initial gift).Â
Sue and Lee are members of St. Cloud State's Riverview Society (cumulative giving of $250,000 to $499,999) and Heritage Society (planned gift donations).
Their generosity has helped build Huskies pride amongst thr University's student-athletes.  At the SCSU Senior Send-Off event, every senior is presented a framed SCSU letter to commemorate their student-athlete experience at St. Cloud State thanks to the contributions of Sue and Lee.
Sue and Lee's contributions have also helped provide funds for the Gladys Ziemer Women's Athletic Lounge campaign, the SCSU volleyball locker room renovation campaign and men's basketball team's season opening trips.
The couple has been long-time season ticket holders for basketball and over the years have given counsel and support to SCSU coaches. Sue is a member of the St. Cloud State Athletic Hall of Fame and has served on the Hall of Fame's selection committee.
Lee was a stellar Division I track and cross country athlete at SMU while Sue is a 1981 graduate of St. Cloud State University. Sue earned 11 athletic letters in basketball (4), volleyball (4), track & field (2) and tennis (1) from 1975 to 1979. She set numerous team and individual records in basketball and track during her collegiate career and received All-America honors in basketball and All-Region honors in volleyball, basketball and track. She was the first woman collegiate basketball player in Minnesota to both score 1,000 points and grab 1,000 rebounds during her career. Sue was invited to try out for several international women's basketball teams, including the Pan-Am Games, World University Games and the USA Women's Select team. Her athletic career also included a season of playing for the Minnesota Fillies of the Women's Professional Basketball League in 1979-80.
Sue and Lee reside in St. Cloud, Minnesota, and own Command Central, an election management company that works with local election officials to ensure successful elections.
