Same score, different game - Huskies shutout 0-3 by Bemidji State

BEMIDJI, MINN. – The tides turned in the second matchup of the season as the St. Cloud State University Huskies women's hockey team (5-12-1, 2-9-0 WCHA) were shutout 0-3 against the Bemidji State Beavers (3-12-1, 3-7-1 WCHA) on Friday night at the Sanford Center. An exact opposite game than the one played just over a week earlier where St. Cloud took down the Beaver's 3-0 in Brainerd, Minn. Nov. 20.
"In this league, you can't start that poorly and then fight your way back in," said Huskies' head coach Eric Rud. "Teams are too good to take a period off and we did not start well."
The Beaver's significantly out-shot the Huskies in the opening two periods, going into the third period with 32-7 shots on goal for BSU. Bemidji's Haley Mack would open up the scoring at 11:29 of the first period, assisted by Lydia Passolt and Clair DeGeorge.
It was Mack to score again with just 44 seconds remaining in the second period to put the Beaver's ahead 2-0 going into the final period. Mack's second goal was assisted by linemates Passolt and DeGeorge once again.
Haley Mack completed her game hat trick at 18:46 of the third period with a power play goal. Bemidji would end the game with a 3-0 win over St. Cloud.
St. Cloud State goaltender Janine Alder stopped 40 shots in the game; the Beaver's Lauren Bench had 11 saves to complete the shutout. Final shots on goal from today's game were SCSU 43, BSU 11. St. Cloud went 0-2 on the power play and 4-1 on the penalty kill.
"Janine hung in there; [BSU] was getting first and second looks and I didn't think we competed very hard in front of her," said Rud. "She had a great performance and certainly gave us a chance to have a better outcome."
The Huskies and Beavers will faceoff again tomorrow in a 3:07 p.m. game at the Sanford Center in Bemidji. Follow that game:
