ST. CLOUD, MINN. - With school just around the corner, the St. Cloud State University softball team is gearing up for fall practices in preparation for the 2021 school year. On Monday, the Huskies announced the addition of Robert "Skip" Heagle to their coaching staff for the upcoming season.
"I am excited to have [Heagle] join our Huskies softball family," said St. Cloud State softball coach Paula U'Ren. "He brings both experience as a men's fastpitch player and an impressive resume coaching successful teams, whether it was at the premier or high school levels. He is an avid learner of the game and is able to bring his knowledge to training sessions with the athletes to help them meet their goals."
Heagle brings 30-plus years of playing and coaching experience to the Huskies bench and found success at nearly every level of the game. Prior to joining St. Cloud State's coaching staff, Heagle served as a head coach and skills clinician for Midwest Speed and additionally served as a coach with Dakota County Technical College, Mahtomedi, South St. Paul and Eagan. As head coach of the Zephyrs, Heagle led Mahtomedi to the 4AAA Section Championship and a sixth place finish at the state tournament. He was named the 4AAA Section Coach of the Year that same season and saw multiple student-athletes earn All-Conference recognition.Â
"Skip Heagle is a passionate coach with a great deal of knowledge from playing years in the men's game and coaching at all levels," commented Sean Hall, director of Midwest Speed. "He has a keen talent and many contacts across the Midwest."
"Skip exudes energy and a love of the game," praised Minot State head softball coach Nathan Wagner. "A verteran player, coach and clinician, he brings a wealth of knowledge to the Huskies and an infectious passion for fastpitch softball."
Heagle is a NFCA 3-Star Master Coach and works for the Minnesota Department of Transportation when not on the softball field.
