DULUTH, MINN. - When the 2020 St. Cloud State University tennis season was cut short last spring, St. senior Jill Kedrowski (St. Cloud, Minn. / Tech) has a very important decision to make: graduate or stay and play her final season with the Huskies. Kedrowski chose to stay with St. Cloud State and played one final spring of her collegiate career. On Sunday, the senior was rewarded, as she notched the 100th career dual match in the Huskies 6-1 loss to MSU-Moorhead.Â
Kedrowski reached the milestone in singles play, as she won St. Cloud State's lone match of the day in straight set fashion. As the No. 3 singles player, Kedrowski downed the Dragons Rachel Nguyen 6-1 in the opening set before taking the second set 7-5, becoming the first player to reach the 100 dual win milestone in many years.Â
Kedrowski nearly earned her 100th win in doubles play, as she and Partner Shannah Kinny (Litchfield, Minn. / Litchfield) matched MSU-Moorhead's top team point for point through the first eight games of the match. A late break for the Dragons, though, resulted in a 6-4 win for MSU-Moorhead.Â
The Huskies fought valiantly in their doubles matches Sunday afternoon, as the No. 2 team of Sam Fitzpatrick (Rogers, Minn. / Rogers) and Olivia Frederickson (Fridley, Minn. / Fridley) fell to Mikaela and Miranda Griechen 6-4. Kylee Frisbie (Foley, Minn. / Foley) and Emma Brunkow (Lake City, Minn. / Lake City) fell by an identical of 6-4 as St. Cloud State's No. 3 tennis teams.Â
Fitzpatrick, Kinny, Frederickson, Frisbie and Burnkow also competed for the Huskies in Sunday's singles play. As the No. 1 singles player, Fitzpatrick fell to Julia Geske 6-1, 6-0, while Kinny battled at the No. 2 spot but lost to Lorissa Yuen 6-4, 6-1.Â
Frederickson nearly earned St. Cloud State's second win of the day, but early breaks by Mikaela Griechen resulted in a 6-3, 6-3 straight set win for the Dragons at the No. 4 singles spot. Frisbie battled in her match as well but dropped the first set 7-5 before losing the second set 6-1. Brunkow fell as the team's No. 6 singles player 6-1, 6-2.Â
With the loss, the Huskies overall record now stands at 1-5 with an identical 1-5 mark in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) play. St. Cloud State will return to action on Friday, March 5 with a 7:30 p.m. match against St. Catherine University in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
