SCSU Track & Field travels to Duluth for 2021 NSIC Outdoor Championships

St. Cloud State Women's Track & Field heads north this week for the 2021 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Outdoor Championships held at Malosky Stadium in Duluth, Minnesota. The Conference Championships begin with the Heptathlon on Thursday, May 13 and run through Saturday, May 15.
Field Events
The Huskies' competition will begin with the Heptathlon on Thursday, as Jocelyn Johnson and Victoria Czech are representing SCSU in the multis. On Friday, Claire Shea, Julia Rowles and Shantelle Des Marais will open the Huskies' efforts in the High Jump. Shea currently ranks No. 10 in the NSIC, with Rowles joining her in the top-15. Dominique Buechel is the Huskies' Hammer Throw choice on Friday, fresh off breaking the SCSU program record with a 52.60m heave last weekend in Mankato. Emma Gauert and Gracie Elsenpeter will go in the Pole Vault on Friday, with Elsenpeter ranking No. 9 in the NSIC entering the Championships. The Long Jump will feature Emelia Burris, Faith Lubner and Parker Buske. Burris ranks fifth in the conference after setting a new Huskies record with a 5.92m leap. Dacoda Zimmerman rounds out the Friday Field in the Shot Put.
SCSU's stellar Triple Jump duo of Buske and Maya Taylor open the Saturday Field, both ranking top-11 with Buske landing third in the NSIC. Buske has won each of the four Triple Jump events she has competed in this Outdoor season. Buechel will throw the Discus on Saturday, entering ranked No. 6 in NCAA-DII with a school-record 52.21 high mark. Czech is SCSU's choice in the Javelin, closing out the Huskies' Saturday Field competitors.
Track Events
Clara Welhouse and Isabella Kraft open St. Cloud State's Friday Track Events in the 3000m Steeplechase, with the former ranking top-15 in the NSIC. The 100 Meter Hurdles will feature program record-holder Lubner and Elsenpeter, landing fifth and No. 11 respectively among their NSIC foes. Burris ranks ninth in the 100 Meter Dash and likewise will go on Friday, followed by Leighten Fischer in the 800 Meter Run. The NSIC's No. 8 400 Meter Hurdles competitor Makayla Rice will be joined by Karla Encarnacion in the final Huskies Friday event.
On Saturday, SCSU opens the Track Events with the 4x100 Meter Relay featuring Elsenpeter, Burris, Cassidy Lackovic and Buske. Cheresa Bouley will run in the first of her two distance events with the 1500 Meter Run. She'll be joined by Katherine Todd in the 5000 Meter Run later in the afternoon. The Huskies will conclude their NSIC Championships showing with the 4x400 Meter Relay, going with the team of Lackovic, Fischer, Rice and Kaylee Gessay. Saturday's action will also feature the Finals of the 100, 100 Hurdles, 800 and 400 Hurdles.
