St. Cloud State Women's Track and Field thrower Dominique Buechel broke two program records as part of a fifth-place Huskies finish at the Maverick Classic in Mankato on Friday. The Huskies landed fifth in a fourteen-school field, competing in their final regular-season meet of the Outdoor season.
"It was another really good day for our groups down in Mankato," said head coach Sam Kettenhofen, "Very pleased with the performances in our final tune up prior to the Conference Championships."
Buechel began her performance by winning the Discus with a whopping 52.21m throw, breaking Sandy Fuchs' 1995 mark of 51.51m and earning herself the No. 6 rank in NCAA-DII at the time of the event. She placed sixth in the Hammer Throw, unleashing a 52.60m toss that shattered Rebecca Kitzman's 52.24m mark set in 2012.
"Very excited and happy for Dom!" Kettenhofen continued, "She has had an excellent season and for her to break two School Records in the same meet is an incredible accomplishment."
