ST. CLOUD, Minn. – St. Cloud State Men's Soccer fell 5-1 at the hands of Morningside College on Saturday evening at Husky Stadium in the program's home opener. The Huskies were unable to recover from a red card in the fourth minute, playing a man down for the final 86. A barrage of first-half goals made it 5-0 Mustangs at the half, then SCSU responded to hold Morningside scoreless in the final 45 minutes. Emmanuel Iwe scored the Huskies' lone goal in the 58th minute on a breakaway, racing through the defense and making a great move to open up an empty net.

QUOTABLES
St. Cloud State Men's Soccer Head Coach Sean Holmes
"Well, it's obviously disappointing to start our home career here in that fashion. The team will learn and grow from this. I hope we don't give up a red card in the fourth minute again. When it happened, the first minute I was angry and disappointed, and then I was happy: this was an opportunity for us to work on something, to figure out a solution. It's the nature of soccer, this will happen again to someone. We'll be up a man, we'll be down a man over the course of the season. I was happy with the first couple minutes, we created a really good chance and should have been up 1-0, then we collapsed for 16 minutes, and then we found our feet again and kept doing what we needed to do. I was really pleased with the second half, we went in at halftime and said listen, 'What's done is done.' We weren't so concerned with clawing back all five goals as opposed to winning the second half. Morningside is a really well-coached team, the NAIA has good players everywhere, it's always going to be challenging. I was, in the end, happy. A growth opportunity. Painful, but nevertheless a growth opportunity."
