Huskies just three points shy of UMD
ST. CLOUD, Minn. - The St. Cloud State women's basketball team's home winning streak came to end Tuesday evening. The Huskies won 16 straight games in their home territory of Halenbeck Hall until they fell 59-56 to (RV) Minnesota Duluth, just three points short in their first loss of the season. Jada Eggebrecht once again lead the Huskies in scoring closing the night with 18 points.Â
GAME SUMMARY
The Bulldogs did not make it easy for the Huskies tonight as they nabbed away St. Cloud's early lead. Throughout the first and second period, the Huskies could not find their shooting rhythm as UMD's point margin grew to seven. The Huskies headed into the locker room at half down 32-25. Minnesota Duluth's Taytum Rhoades gave the Huskies trouble as she went 4-4 scoring eight points for the Bulldogs in the first half. Jada Eggebrecht tallied seven first half points while Katrina Theis tallied six.
Returning to the court for the second half, the Huskies were ready to shake things up. St. Cloud slimmed down the Bulldogs lead and kept the game neck and neck. At the end of the third period the Huskies jumped to a 47-45 point lead. Katrina Theis knocked down key baskets to help the Huskies regain their lead. Entering into the fourth and final period, the Bulldogs grabbed the lead back until Abigail Groeneweg knocked down a three-point jump shot to put St. Cloud back on top with 5:44 left. However after a few missed buckets by the Huskies, the Bulldogs took back the lead. With six seconds left of the game, the Huskies had possession of the ball but could not get a good shot off before the clock ran out to fall 59-56 in the end.Â
