Junker, Estrada deliver for the Huskies
CLERMONT, FLA.. – The St. Cloud State University softball team is starting to find its groove again. The Huskies won their second consecutive game in Clermont, Florida, as they earned a 1-0 shutout against Lewis Tuesday afternoon. With the win, St. Cloud State is now 8-7 overall and 2-5 on the roadtrip.
GAME ONE: St. Cloud State (1) vs. Lewis (0)
The Huskies scored just one run in their game against Lewis, but that single run was enough to secure victory. After three innings of scoreless play, St. Cloud State finally broke through on the scoreboard in the top of the fourth. Sydney Trees (Prior Lake, Minn. / Prior Lake) opened the inning with an infield single and was eventually bunted to second by clean up hitter Holly Weinberger (Waconia, Minn. / Waconia), giving the Huskies a runner in scoring position with one out.
After a strikeout, it looked like St. Cloud State was destined for another scoreless inning until Jasmin Estrada (Litchfield, Minn. / Litchfield) took matters into her own hands. The single singled through the right side, scoring Trees from second and giving the Huskies a 1-0 lead. That one run was the only one Trinity Junker (Lindstrom, Minn. / Chisago Lakes), who mowed down the Lewis line up, holding the Flyers to just four hits in seven innings, to secure the 1-0 victory.
