Here are the five things to know before this Wednesday's doubleheader:
41 - The Huskies and Wolves have squared off 41 times in the history of the match, with St. Cloud State holding a 34-7 record against Northern State. In fact, the Huskies earned a key sweep against the Wolves in 2021, though it was at Selke Field. Jasmin Estrada (Litchfield, Minn. / Litchfield) scored the game-winning run on an RBI double by Sydney Trees (Prior Lake, Minn. / Prior Lake), while Kylie Thomsen (Elk Grove Village, Ill. / Elk Grove Village) earned the win in the circle.Â
2018 - It has been a while since the Wolves last defeated the Huskies. In fact, Northern State's last win occurred on May 3, 2018 when Northern State defeated St. Cloud State 9-3 in the opening round of the NSIC tournament. Only three Huskies remain on the roster from that 2018 team: Thomsen, Brooke Bowlin (Chaska, Minn. / Holy Family) and Haley McFarlane (Swisher, Iowa / Cedar Rapids Prairie).Â
.514/.810/.545 - Holly Weinberger (Waconia, Minn. / Waconia) had a week to remember April 12-16, as she led the Huskies in nearly every offensive category in three NSIC doubleheaders. The junior utility player slashed .524 with 11 hits in 21 at bats, including three doubles and a home run for a .810 slugging percentage. She additionally recorded 26 putouts between right field and first base without committing a single error.Â
5/9 - St. Cloud State made plenty of history in its doubleheader against Upper Iowa last Friday. The Huskies hit nine home runs over the course of two games, including five in their 14-13 game two win over the Peacocks. Estrada was particularly impressive, tying the program record for single game hits with a 5-5 line at the plate.Â
.290/6.10 - The Wolves have struggled in conference play this season, boasting an overall record of 10-28 with a 2-14 mark in NSIC play. While Northern State is hitting .290 as a team with 297 total hits, the Wolves pitching staff possesses a combined ERA of 6.10.
