St. Cloud, Minn- St. Cloud State Women's Tennis head coach Berit Merrill announced the addition of Gibby Chapman to the program on Wednesday.
Â
"Gibby will be a wonderful addition to the SCSU Tennis Team," said Merrill. "Along with a strong tennis skill set and strong academics, she beams with positive energy, and has a tremendous love for our sport! I am excited and grateful for her to be a Husky!"
Â
By way of Lincoln East High School in Nebraska, Chapman will be attending St. Cloud State in the fall of 2024. Chapman intends to major in Exercise Science with a minor in Athletic Coaching with the hopes of becoming a tennis coach after graduation. During her time at Lincoln East, Chapman is part of the Student Council, Feminist Club, and National Honor Society in which she attends volunteering events to make East a better place.
Â
Chapman currently works at the Woods Tennis Center where she teaches hundreds of kids from ages 3 to 15 the game of tennis. When Chapman is not playing or teaching tennis, she enjoys being with friends, storm-spotting, and playing guitar.
Â
"I chose St. Cloud for the opportunities I see there for me and the opportunities I can create," said Chapman. "Coach Berit and Brooklyn gave me such a warm welcome and I knew SCSU was good fit because as soon as I arrived back in my hometown I was already counting down the days till I could return!"
