QUOTING KETTENHOFEN
"The week before conference is always a good meet to just iron out some things and get ready for the championships. Some people take off, some people are doing their final prep work and some people are just trying to improve some performances on either the national or conference list to improve their standing."
"I think there were a lot of takeaways from last week. When we were down in Mankato, first of all it was just a cool setup. Kudos to the Mankato staff for putting those meets together - you got to see some different schools. Colorado Mesa, Cal Poly-Pomona, Cal State-San Marcos, which is really really cool. It's nice to see some different competition. The quality was also really good. Across all the different events there were tons of different national marks. It's nice to have that level of competition. Looking at the results, the high jumpers did really, really well. Both of them had good looks at 1.72, which would really be nice in the national standings. Both over 1.67 is a good spot to be - the next bar is there, we just have to hit it. Parker had a nice weekend. It's kind of been a bit of a different season for her, but this last weekend we saw the Parker of old in the triple jump and there's a lot of good things there. Hopefully this weekend we can keep that ball moving and then at the championships get back to where she can definitely be. On the track, Brooklyn ran a PR in the 400 which was nice - she'll tell you she didn't execute it all that well, so there's more there. Mari also ran really well, Clara ran a really nice leg of the 1200 on the DMR."
On Julia Rowles' strong stretch in the High Jump… "As an athlete gets older, you see them develop and grow. The biggest thing with her is confidence. We've had some conversations at meets where I kind of know if we have a chance at the bar based off of body language and confidence prior to it. She's come into her own in the high jump and has strung together some pretty consistent meets and performances. Any time you're consistent and confident in the high jump, good things can happen. It's great to see those results showing up so she can make bars and get more confident. The more high bars you see, the easier they become to hit because they're in your eyeline. I was very happy to see her attempt 1.72 because I know it's there, we just have to do it."
Areas of focus at the final regular season Indoor meet… "It's a little bit of everything. Every time you compete, you want to have a purpose. I think it's just another step in the process. For Brooklyn and Mari in the 600, it's a good opportunity to run faster than they've already ran. They both look great, and I think we can go faster than we have. For Paola and Julia it's another chance to jump high and see a bar that can get them to the national meet, and go from there. For Parker it's an opportunity to build on the improvements we've seen and move up the national list, and feel better about where she's at in the conference. For others it's an opportunity to keep competing and growing in track and field. It's an opportunity to compete and improve their standings."
