Muñoz Perez, Brower, Molitor earn singles wins
Virginia, Minn.- St. Cloud State Women's Tennis (1-2, 0-2 NSIC) were defeated by Minnesota State Moorhead (2-1, 1-1 NSIC) 3-4 Saturday afternoon. The Huskies were unable to win a doubles match but were able to win three singles matches and nearly squeaked out the victory.
Doubles
St. Cloud State did not earn the doubles point in this matchup as they lost all three of the doubles matches. In the No. 1 spot, Maria Paz Aoki (Marcos Paz, Argentina) and Claudia Muñoz Perez (Tarragona, Spain) suffered their first loss of the season as a duo losing 5-7 to Madison Bell and Tiannah Gu. Paz Aoki and Muñoz Perez were 2-0 in the No. 1 doubles spot coming into this match. Senior Arisa Kashima (Saitama, Japan) and freshman Orianna Grott (Warsaw, Poland) were defeated by Shaelyn Johnson and Tia Dykema 2-6 in the No. 2 spot. In the No. 3 spot, sophomore Johana Brower (Sioux Falls, S.D.) and sophomore Maria Molitor (Delano, Minn.) lost 6-7 in a tightly contested match against Marissa Burian and Claire Nemmers.
Singles
In Singles play, the Huskies and Dragons split the six matches, winning three apiece. Muñoz Perez put the first point on the board for the Huskies as she won 7-6, 6-3 in the No. 3 spot. Brower earned a comfortable 6-4, 6-0 victory in the No. 5 spot. The last singles point for the Huskies was grabbed by Molitor as she won 6-2, 6-7, 6-0 in the No. 6 spot.
