St. Cloud State Tennis falls 4-1 to Sioux Falls in the NSIC Tournament

Huskies season concludes following the loss
Sioux Falls S.D.- St. Cloud State Women's Tennis (11-7, 6-5 NSIC) were defeated by Sioux Falls (13-5, 5-3 NSIC) 4-1 Friday evening in the NSIC Tournament. The Huskies dropped the doubles point after losing two matches with the third match going unfinished. St. Cloud State then dropped three singles matches which led to the loss. An outstanding season for the Huskies has come to an end following the loss.
Doubles
St. Cloud State dropped the doubles point by losing two of the three matches. In the No. 1 spot, sophomore Johana Brower (Sioux Falls, S.D.) and sophomore Claudia Muñoz Perez (Tarragona, Spain) were defeated 6-4. Sophomore Maria Paz Aoki (Marcos Paz, Argentina) and freshman Oriana Grott (Warsaw, Poland) took a 6-0 loss in the No. 2 spot as they fell to Sydney Osburn and Ella Hancock. The third doubles match involving Maria Molitor and Olivia Fredrickson of St. Cloud State and Katelyn Nesheim and Emma Rangel of Sioux Falls went unfinished after the Cougars secured the doubles point.
Singles
In Singles play, the Huskies only recorded one win en route to the 4-1 loss. Brower put the only point on the board for the Huskies as she won 6-0, 6-2 in the No. 5 spot for her 14th victory of the season. The Huskies were defeated in the No. 3, 4, and 6 spots which allowed Sioux Falls to win the match. All three of the losses came in straight sets as St. Cloud State was unable to record more than three points in a set. In the No. 1 spot Grott's match went unfinished as Grott was leading 1-0 in the third set. Paz Aoki's match in the No. 2 spot also went unfinished with Paz Aoki losing 1-2 in the third set.

After starting the year 1-3, the Huskies rallied to win nine matches out of their next ten including a 6-match winning streak. The 11 wins that the Huskies captured were the most in a season since 2017. The Huskies will be back next season in the spring looking to build off the outstanding season that they put together.
