St. Cloud State concede twice in the first half
Grand Rapids, Mich.- No. 13 St. Cloud State Men's Soccer (7-4-0, 5-2-0 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) dropped their second consecutive match in a 2-1 defeat against Davenport Sunday morning. The Panthers got the scoring started in the 7th minute after Davenport drilled a ball deep into the Huskies defensive zone. St. Cloud State misplayed the ball and Drew Matyunas made the Huskies pay to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead. Davenport created another transition opportunity in the 19th as they forced a one-on-one opportunity. Easton Lopez would take advantage of that opportunity as he gave Davenport a 2-0 lead early in the game. The Panthers held that lead for the remainder of the half as they went into the break leading 2-0. After another quiet first half for the Huskies, the tides began to turn as they found new energy coming out of the break. In the 61st minute, Philip Caputo broke down the defense as he dribbled the ball into the box. Caputo then dumped it down to Rhys Ward who chipped in the goal off his right foot to cut the lead down to one. The Huskies offense continued to hum in the second half as they generated eight corner kicks and multiple great opportunities right at the doorstep but were unable to find the equalizer the rest of the game. St. Cloud State would go on to drop their second consecutive match as they would be defeated 2-1 by Davenport.
