St. Cloud State hit the road this past weekend as they traveled to Saginaw Valley State and Davenport.
Friday's game against Saginaw Valley State saw the Huskies fall into an 0-1 hole after a goal by Jonny Monney in the 16th minute. The Cardinals were in control for the majority of the first half and expanded their lead in the 39th minute with a goal by Sheikh Manneh. The St. Cloud State offense started to pick up in the second half as Philip Caputo drew a penalty in the box. Caputo stepped up to take the shot and would have it saved by Cardinal goalkeeper Nick Kay, which was distraughtful for the Huskies momentum. St. Cloud State was quiet offensively for the game as they would be held to five total shots and one shot on goal. Saginaw Valley State knocked in one more goal in the 66th minute as they would snap the Huskies seven game winning streak with a 3-0 shutout victory.
Sunday's game against Davenport again saw St. Cloud State trail early in the game as Davenport took a 2-0 lead after scoring on two transition opportunities in the first 19 minutes of play. The Huskies offense was again quiet in the first half as they would trail 2-0 at the break. Finding new energy at the halftime break, St. Cloud State and their potent offense started to put the pressure on Davenport. Philip Caputo dribbled down the field in the 61st minute, collapsing the Panther defense. With all eyes on him, Caputo dumped it down to Rhys Ward who was wide open in front of the box and chipped the ball in with his right foot to set the score at 2-1. The Huskies offense continued to create great chances throughout the remainer of the game as they worked eight corner kicks and 11 shots in the second half. Despite the chances, St. Cloud State was unable to find the back of the net for the second time as they were defeated 2-1 by Davenport for their second straight loss.
