Last Time Out
This past week, St. Cloud State continued GLIAC play as they traveled to Northern Michigan on Wednesday and then hosted Roosevelt on Friday.
Wednesday's game started slow for both the Huskies and Wildcats with both teams being held scoreless halfway through the first half. That changed in the 28th minute as Philip Caputo attacked the Wildcat defense into their box and would ultimately be fouled, leading to a penalty kick. Caputo stepped to the line, taking the kick himself, where he fired a shot to the right post which beat the keeper to give the Huskies a 1-0 lead. St. Cloud State held onto that lead for the remainder of the half. The second half also started slowly until the Wildcats created a break opportunity which led to the Huskies fouling Northern Michigan in the penalty box. A Northern Michigan player stepped up to the plate and fired a shot that would be denied by goalkeeper Ramy Atia who made an incredible diving save to his left to block the shot in the 61st minute. That save was a massive momentum killer for the Wildcats. The teams battled late into the game before the Northern Michigan goalkeeper sent a ball into the Huskies box where Andrew Holmes came away with the ball. Holmes passed it up to Caputo who took a couple of dribbles and fired a missile at the midline which flew past the keeper and blew up in the back of the net for a mind-blowing goal in the 82nd minute. The St. Cloud State defense again held strong in the final minutes of the game as the Huskies won their sixth straight game 2-0 against Northern Michigan. Caputo recorded his third multi-goal game of the year and Atia tallied his second shutout while recording three saves.
Friday's game against Roosevelt was another stout defensive performance for the Huskies. No scoring occurred in the first 35 minutes of play until Noah Eklund knocked the ball away from a Roosevelt player and delivered a deep pass to Matt Greenland. Greenland took a few dribbles in the attacking zone and then dropped a dime to Rhys Ward right in front of the net who cashed in the opportunity off of his right foot to give the Huskies a 1-0 lead. St. Cloud State held that lead for the remainder of the game as they picked up their seventh straight victory by taking down Roosevelt 1-0. Ramy Atia tallied his third consecutive shutout while making a season-high of six saves.

St. Cloud State Men's Soccer earned their first national ranking in program history as announced by the United Soccer Coaches Tuesday afternoon.
