Caputo Caps Off Comeback with Game-Winner as Huskies Win 2-1

St. Cloud State Finishes 3rd in the GLIAC Standings
Hammond, Ind.- St. Cloud State Men's Soccer (9-7-1, 6-5-1 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) closed out their regular season with a 2-1 victory against Purdue Northwest Sunday afternoon. The Huskies fell behind 1-0 after allowing a goal in the 19th minute. The Huskies offense was relatively quite in the first half until Andrew Holmes fired a rocket in the 42nd minute to tie the game right before halftime. The teams played out the final three minutes before going into halftime tied 1-1. The second half picked up for the Huskies as they totaled eight shots in the half after only have three in the first half. The teams battled late into the second half, still tied at 1-1, before St. Cloud State created a break opportunity in the 78th minute. Mika Folstad found Rhys Ward streaking up the field who then found Philip Caputo with an opportunity to score. Caputo fired a cross shot off his right foot that beat the keeper in the bottom left corner to give the Huskies a 2-1 advantage. The defense for St. Cloud State closed out the game by not allowing a shot on goal in the final 12 minutes. For the day, Purdue Northwest could only muster three shots on goal. St. Cloud State earned their first comeback win of the season with a 2-1 victory in their regular season finale. The win by the Huskies allowed them to clinch the three-seed in the GLIAC Tournament. St. Cloud State will a host a playoff game against Purdue Northwest next week.
