Holmes Named NSIC Player of the Week

Sophomore infielder led the Huskies offense during 5-1 weekend in Illinois
BURNSVILLE, Minn. – Sophomore infielder Brooke Holmes (Savage, Minn.) was named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Player of the Week as announced by the league office on Monday. It is the first weekly conference award of her career, and she is the first Husky to earn weekly honors so far this season.
Holmes led the Huskies offense in many statistical categories during their 5-1 stretch last weekend in Rosemont, Illinois. She hit .458 (11-for-24) and owned a .458 on-base percentage and .792 slugging percentage for an OPS of 1.250. She posted five extra base hits including one home run, one triple and three doubles.
The sophomore also drove in a team-high 10 runs, scored four runs and was 1-for-1 on stolen base attempts. She recorded a hit in every game to extend her hitting streak to seven games while tallying three multi-hit games including two three-hit games. Defensively, tallied seven putouts and 11 assists with a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage.
This season, Holmes leads the team in batting average (.519), on-base percentage (.559), slugging percentage (.846), OPS (1.405), runs (14), hits (27), doubles (six), home runs (three), RBI (18) and total bases (44). She also leads in multi-hit games (nine) and multi-RBI games (five) and is currently on a seven-game hitting streak. Holmes is also a perfect 2-for-2 on stolen base attempts and had recorded 28 putouts and 30 assists in 58 chances for a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage.
The Huskies beat UW-Parkside (Wis.), Upper Iowa, Wayne State (Mich.), Grand Valley State (Mich.) and Truman State (Mo.) and lost to William Jewell (Mo.) in their six games at the Parkway Dome in Rosemont, Illinois from Thursday, Feb. 20 – Saturday, Feb. 22.
SCSU travels to Florida for spring break and will play 12 games from Friday, Feb. 28 through Friday, March 7. All of the games will be played at Legends Way in Clermont. Links to each coverage option will be available on the SCSU Softball schedule page.
