Sophomore infielder one of four NSIC position players on list
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Sophomore infielder Brooke Holmes (Savage, Minn.) was named the 2025 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division II Player of the Year watchlist, as announced by the organization on Thursday.
In total, 116 student-athletes from across the country were revealed as part of the 2025 NFCA Division II Player and Pitcher of the Year watchlist. Holmes is one of four position players from the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) to be named to the list along with one pitcher.
The list is broken down into the eight NCAA Regions (Atlantic, Central, East, Midwest, South, South Central, Southeast and West) with up to 15 student-athletes represented in each region. The list is compiled by the elected members of the NFCA Division II All-American Committee with one head coach representing each of the eight NCAA regions. To be eligible, a student-athlete's head coach must be a member. In all, the group consists of 88 programs from 21 different conferences.
Voted on by the NFCA's Division II All-American Committee, the 2025 NFCA Player and Pitcher of the Year winners will be announced on May 30 following the conclusion of the NCAA Division II National Championships. All student-athletes are eligible for the end-of-the-season award and do not have to be on this list to be considered.
The Player of the Year award was created in 2015 to honor the outstanding athletic achievements among softball student-athletes throughout NCAA Division II. In 2019, the Association expanded the award to include a Player and Pitcher of the Year.
Holmes leads the NSIC in hits (49 – tie) and runs (37). She leads SCSU in batting average (.445), on-base percentage (.496), slugging percentage (.718), RBIs (31), home runs (six), runs/game (1.16), RBIs/game (0.97), home runs/game (0.19), total bases (79), times hit by a pitch (3) and assists (53). She also ranks second in doubles (10), second in doubles/game (0.31) and third in stolen bases (five – tie) on the team.
On Feb. 24, she was named the NSIC Player of the Week by the league office. It was the first weekly conference award of her career, and she became the first Husky to earn weekly honors this season.
The Huskies travel for their first road conference games of this season this weekend. SCSU plays No. 10 Augustana (24-6, 6-0 NSIC) on Friday at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. at Bowden Field in Sioux Falls, S.D. and Wayne State (17-11, 2-2 NSIC) on Saturday at noon and 2 p.m. at the Pete Chapman Softball Complex in Wayne, Neb. Links to each coverage option will be available on the SCSU Softball schedule page.
