Holzhueter represents Huskies on first team; Clark, Fitzgerald, Holmes and Porter earn second team honors
BURNSVILLE, Minn. – St. Cloud State Softball was well recognized in the end-of-season Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) awards, as the league announced its selections on Tuesday. Junior right handed pitcher Macey Clark (Winneconne, Wis.) became the first ever Husky to be named the NSIC Newcomer of the Year and five from SCSU were named to the All-NSIC teams, tying the school record for the most players selected to the all-conference teams in the program's NSIC ERA (since 2009).
Senior outfielder Reese Holzhueter (Shakopee, Minn.) was named to the All-NSIC First Team, while Clark, senior first baseman Maggie Fitzgerald (Oak Lawn, Ill.), sophomore second baseman Brooke Holmes (Savage, Minn.) and junior right handed pitcher Justyce Porter (Kent, Wash.) were all Second Team All-NSIC selections. The Huskies also had five All-NSIC selections in 2019 and 2022, while the record for most ever all-conference performers came in 2003 when SCSU had six named to the All-North Central Conference (NCC) teams. The Huskies also had five All-NCC Selections in 2004.
Holzhueter is a repeat First Team All-NSIC pick after earning the honors as a utility in 2024. She becomes just the second ever Husky, after Raven Vanden Langenberg in 2021 and 2022, to earn back-to-back first team honors and is one of just five players in program history to be named to the first team.
During conference play, the senior ranked among the top-10 in the NSIC in batting average (.423), on-base percentage (.462), hits (41) and stolen bases (11). She is nearing school records for hits in a season and singles in a season and is on pace to break the career batting average record.
Clark went 9-4 in NSIC play over 15 appearances/14 starts (80.1 innings), logging six complete games and picked up one up one save. She posted a 2.18 ERA and 1.05 WHIP with three total shutouts (two solo/one combined) in conference play, while holding NSIC batters to a .224 batting average. The junior recorded 59 strikeouts to just 19 walks and ranked top-10 among NSIC pitchers in ERA, wins, opposing batting average, strikeouts and innings pitched during the NSIC schedule. She is the first player in program history to earn NSIC Newcomer of the Year honors.
During the NSIC season, Fitzgerald ranked second in on-base percentage (.485) and walks (22), Holmes was top-10 in RBI (21) and Porter ranked top-10 in ERA (1.36), opponents' batting average (.241), saves (10), fewest sacrifice flies allowed (1), fewest hits allowed (34), fewest runs allowed (15), fewest earned runs allowed (seven), fewest walks allowed (nine) and fewest doubles allowed (six).
Fiztgerald has set new school records for walks in a season (106) and walks in a single season (42). Holmes was named NSIC Player of the week twice (2/24 and 4/28) and is approaching the school record for runs scored in a season. Clark, Fitzgerald, Holmes and Porter are all first time All-NSIC selections.
