No. 25 St. Cloud State Softball Selected to First NCAA Tournament Since 2019, 11th in Program History

Huskies earn No. 5 seed in NCAA Central Region, open tournament against No. 4 seed Southern Arkansas on Thursday, May 14 at 5:30 p.m. in Joplin, Missouri
INDIANAPOLIS – For the first time since 2019 and the 11th time in program history, No. 25 St. Cloud State Softball is headed to the NCAA Tournament, as the 2026 NCAA Division-II Softball Tournament field was announced on Monday. The Huskies (46-13, 26-4 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference), earned an at-large bid and the No. 5 seed in the Central Region and will open the tournament with the Great American Conference (GAC) Tournament Champion and No. 4 seed Southern Arkansas (46-7, 26-6 GAC) on Thursday, May 14 at 5:30 p.m. in Joplin, Missouri. It will be the first-ever meeting between the two programs.

SCSU is headed to its 11th-ever NCAA Tournament (1989, 1991, 1992, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2019, 2026) and its first under the direction of fifth-year head coach Mitch Roberts, who has posted 30+ wins in all five seasons including 40+ in the last two. The Huskies own a 21-21 (.500) record in its 10 previous appearances at the NCAA Tournament and recorded its best finish (third place) in 2004.
SCSU had three players earn NSIC All-Tournament honors – junior outfielder Bree Beck (Lakeville, Minn.), senior pitcher Macey Clark (Winneconne, Wis.) and redshirt sophomore utility Kaylee Collins (Lakeville, Minn.).
Additionally, Clark was tabbed as the NSIC Pitcher of the Year while SCSU had program records in total all-conference honorees (seven) and defensive team selections (three). Clark, junior catcher/infielder Bethany Weiss (Forest Lake, Minn.) and redshirt junior infielder Grace Frechette (Lakeville, Minn.) were SCSU's first team selections, redshirt sophomore utility Kaylee Collins (Lakeville, Minn.), junior infielder Brooke Holmes (Savage, Minn.), sophomore catcher/infielder Morgan Honeycutt (Rosemount, Minn.) and senior pitcher Justyce Porter (Kent, Wash.) were named to the second team and junior outfielder Bree Beck (Lakeville, Minn.), Frechette and Weiss were selected to the all-defensive team.
The 40-team NCAA Central Region is made up of teams from the NSIC, the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) and the Great American Conference (GAC). Automatic bids were awarded to the tournament champions from each conference with the final five spots awarded on an at-large basis.
The championship provides for a field of 64 teams. Four teams will participate at each of 16 regional sites in a double elimination tournament. The 16 teams advancing from regional competition will participate in a two-team, best-of-three super regional at eight sites. The finals will include the eight super regional winners. The national champion will be determined in a best-of-three final series. The NCAA Championships are set for May 28 to June 3 at Frost Stadium at Warner Park, Chattanooga, Tennessee.

With their semifinals win, the Huskies also tied the program record for wins in a season, with 46.

- SCSU beat No. 7 seed Minot State in the NSIC Tournament Quarterfinals on May 7, marking the program's first quarterfinal win in the single elimination era (since 2024).
- The Huskies hit three doubles against Minot to break the single season record for doubles in a season (97), surpassing the previous best mark of 96 set by the 2025 squad.

SCSU took down its program records for all-conference selections in a season – six, on the 2003 All-North Central Conference (NCC) Teams and all-defensive selections in a season – two, in 2019 and 2022 (both NSIC). The Huskies also had three first team All-NSIC selections in 2021.
- Clark, who became the program's first-ever NSIC Newcomer of the Year in 2025, became the Huskies first-ever NSIC Pitcher of the Year this season (Karissa Hoehn '00 was named the NCC MVP in 1998, 1999 and 2000). She also became one of four Husky pitchers to earn multiple All-NSIC honors and one of nine players to be named to the All-NSIC First Team.
- SCSU earned a share of its first-ever NSIC Regular Season Championship as it became co-regular season champions with No. 21 Winona State on May 3 after finishing with the same conference record as the Warriors. The Huskies were selected fifth (zero first place votes) in the NSIC Preseason Coaches' Poll.
- It was the fourth overall regular season conference championship for the Huskies after the 1998, 2003 and 2004 teams all won the North Central Conference (NCC).
- The Huskies 44 wins this season are tied for the second most in a season with the 1999 and 2002 teams.

- On May 2, the Huskies broke the program record for NSIC wins in a season, with 24, surpassing the 2023 team that compiled 23. On May 3, SCSU picked up a doubleheader sweep to extend its record to 26.
- The Huskies were ranked No. 25 in the Week 13 (May 5) edition of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA)/Go Rout Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll. It was the first time SCSU has been ranked since the final poll of 2004 and just the third time ever. The prior week (April 28), SCSU received votes in the poll for the first time since Week 2 of 2020 (Feb. 25).
- SCSU earned 13 run-rule wins this season, including nine in NSIC play.
- The Huskies ended the regular season with five conference doubleheader sweeps in a row and swept 11 of their 15 NSIC series.
- SCSU ended the regular season on a season-best 11-game win streak.
- The Huskies ended the regular season on a 10-game home run streak and have hit 18 long shots during that stretch.
- Senior pitcher Justyce Porter (Kent, Wash.) tossed the first two no-hitters of her career – the program's fifth perfect game on Feb. 28 and the program's ninth no-hitter on April 12 and earned the SCSU Individual Performance of the Year Award for her efforts.
- Redshirt junior infielder Grace Frechette (Lakeville, Minn.) set the program record for assists in a game with 11 on March 29, surpassing the previous record of eight that was held jointly by Julie Engmark (vs. Southwest Minnesota State on April 14, 1982) and Olivia Graham (vs. Shippensburg [Pa.] on March 11, 2006).
- SCSU hit six doubles (all from different batters in the final 2.0 innings) on March 29, which also tied the program record for the most doubles in a game. The Huskies also hit six doubles against Sioux Falls on April 6, 2013 (also six different batters) and Bemidji State on April 12, 2017.
- Junior infielder Brooke Holmes (Savage, Minn.) tied the school record for walks in a game with five on April 5. She tied Megan Lehnen who drew 5 walks vs. Concordia-St. Paul on April 26, 2014.
- Senior pitcher Macey Clark (Winneconne, Wis.) earned her first NSIC Pitcher of the Week honors on April 21 and the lone weekly honor for SCSU this season.
- Four Huskies tied the program record for home runs in a game this season. Sophomore catcher/infielder Morgan Honeycutt (Rosemount, Minn.) did so on April 4, senior infielder Sydney Roe (Davenport, Iowa) on April 16, junior outfielder Hannah Harms (Bartlett, Ill.) on April 25 and junior catcher/infielder Bethany Weiss (Forest Lake, Minn.) on April 26.
