Ali Nowak joins the St. Cloud State softball coaching staff after a storied playing career at Winona State University. A two-time NFCA and D2CCA All-American, Nowak played for the Warriors from 2017-2021, serving as the team's starting catcher and designated player.
Nowak racked up stats and awards during her five year career at Winona State, earning All-America, All-Region and All-Conference nods multiple times from 2017 to 2021. She was a four-time All-NSIC honoree, earning first team honors in 2017, 2018 and 2019 before being named Second Team All-Conference in 2021. Additionally, Nowak earned All-Region honors from both the NFCA and D2CCA in 2017, 2018 and 2019 and was a First Team All-American with both organizations in 2019. Because of this, she was named the NSIC Preason Player of the Year prior to both the 2020 and 2021 season and was named to the Schutt/NFCA DII Player fo the Year Top-50 Watch List in the shortened 2020 season.
Nowak established herself as one of the best hitters in Winona State and NSIC history, as she ranks top-10 all-time in several statistical categories. After her senior season, Nowak ranks second all-time in both career batting average (.417) and career fielding percentage (.995), an impressive feat for the lefty catcher, and holds the school record for single-season fielding percentage (1.000 in 2017 and 2019). She additionally ranks third all-time in career walks (90), fifth career RBIs (175) and doubles (56) and seventh in career hits (251).
Nowak's off the field accomplishments are almost as long as her on the field ones, as her resume includes CoSIDA Academic All-District and All-America honors (2019, 2020) and the NSIC Winona State Female Scholar Athlete of the Year award (2020, 2021). She was voted Winona State's Female Student-Athlete of the Year in 2019 and was the school's Kelly Award Nominee in both 2020 and 2021. Additionally, Nowak was named SHAPE National Health Major of the Year in 2020 and was voted the Outstanding Student Grad by Winona State's School of Health. She graduated from the Winona State Health, Exercise and Rehabilitative Services department in 2021.
