Alex Piekarski returned to St. Cloud State in May 2024 for his second stint on the coaching staff. He currently serves as the assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for the Huskies. Piekarski brings more than a decade of collegiate coaching experience to St. Cloud State, including the past six seasons as a head coach.
Piekarski returns to the Granite City for his second stint with the Huskies after serving as a graduate assistant coach for the 2014 and 2015 seasons. He spent the last five seasons as head coach of Northwestern Oklahoma State (2020-24) where he was named the 2021 GAC Coach of the Year and led the Rangers to back-to-back GAC Conference Tournament appearances in 2021 and 2022. Piekarski led the team to many firsts and program records in 2021, including a program-best 11 wins and its first-ever regional ranking.
Prior to Northwestern, Piekarski was the head coach at NAIA Hasting College (Neb.) in 2019, where he led the Broncos to 17-5 record, a GPAC championship game appearance and the second round of the NAIA National Tournament. Before his two head coaching stints, Piekarski was an assistant coach at SCSU (2014-15), NCAA D-I Utah State (2016) and Wayne State College (2017-18).
Piekarski was a four-year letterwinner at Lakeland University in Sheboygan, Wis. He earned first-team Northern Athletic Collegiate Conference honors in 2011 and 2012 and was a second-team honoree in 2010. Additionally, he earned NACC all-academic honors each of his four seasons. Piekarski graduated from Lakeland University in 2014 with a dual bachelor's degree in middle childhood/early adolescence education and history, and his master's degree in sports administration from St. Cloud State in 2016.
