Husky Softball Falls in Doubleheader to #13 Augustana

St. Cloud, Minn. – The St. Cloud State University softball team hosted #13 Augustana College in a pair of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) games Saturday afternoon at Selke Field. The Huskies fell to the Vikings 0-10 in game one and 1-7 in game two.
The Huskies' record falls to 8-20-1 overall and 2-9-1 in the NSIC. #13 Augustana College improves to 31-8 overall and 14-4 in conference action.
Game One Recap:
Two big innings for the Vikings propelled them to an early and decisive lead. Augustana scored one run in the first, five in the second and four in the fourth as they put together eleven hits.
The Huskies had just one hit in the game, a Jessica Goerger (Mankato) base hit to right center.
Augustana's Jenelle Trautmann pitched a dominant four innings on the mound. Trautmann struck out six and walked one.
Senna Francesconi (Schomberg, Ontario) competed on the mound for the Huskies. Francesconi gave up eleven hits and struck out two.
Game Two Recap:
The Huskies picked up their offense to start off game two, scoring one run in the bottom of the first inning off of a Jessica Goerger RBI single to score Tricia DeBoer (Blooming Prairie).
The Vikings battled back, tying the game 1-1 in the top of the second and then scoring six runs in the top of the fourth.
St. Cloud State finished with five hits, one a piece coming from DeBoer, Goerger, Breana Canova (Riverside, Calif.), Taylor Thomas (Fontana, Calif.) and Megan Larkin (Winchester, Oregon).
The Vikings scored seven runs on eleven hits and four St. Cloud State errors.
Kendra Merritt (Fort Lupton, Colo.) started on the mound for the Huskies, pitching four innings to give up eleven hits and four earned runs.
Rebecca Harps (Yucaipa, Calif.) relieved Merritt for the final three innings. Harps gave up no runs, no hits, and no walks and struck out one.
The Huskies are scheduled to return to action on Sunday, April 13 as they take on Wayne State. Action will begin at 12 and 2 p.m. at Selke Field in St. Cloud.
