SCSU Softball Falls to Wayne State in Sunday Doubleheader

St. Cloud, Minn. – The St. Cloud State University softball team hosted Wayne State College in a pair of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) games Sunday afternoon at Selke Field. The Huskies fell to the Wildcats 0-11 in both games of the doubleheader.
The Huskies' record falls to 8-22-1 overall and 2-11-1 in the NSIC. Wayne State improves to 29-10 overall and 15-2 in conference action.
Game One Recap:
A few big innings for the Wildcats propelled them to an early and decisive lead. Wayne State scored one run in the second, three in the third, two in the fourth and five in the seventh as they put together twelve hits combined with two St. Cloud State errors.
The Huskies put together seven hit in the game but couldn't get a run across the plate. Abby Bunnell (Maple Grove) led the way with two hits on the day. Breana Canova (Riverside, Calif.), Kelsie Fitch (Carver), Jessica Goerger (Mankato) and Emma Hodges (Munster, Indiana) each added one.
Kendra Merritt (Fort Lupton, Colo.) started on the mound for the Huskies and was credited with the loss. Merritt was relieved by Senna Francesconi (Schomberg, Ontario) for the final three innings.
Game Two Recap:
The Huskies couldn't get their bats going in game two as Wayne State's pitcher Kelcie Bormann threw a one-hitter in the seven-inning match-up. Bormann recorded ten strike-outs in the game.
Abby Bunnell recorded the lone hit for St. Cloud State in the bottom of the seventh.
Rebecca Harps (Yucaipa, Calif.) started on the mound for the Huskies, pitching six innings before being relieved by Senna Francesconi. Harps was credited with the loss moving to 0-1 on the season.
The Huskies are scheduled to return to action on Tuesday, April 15 as they host Bemidji State University. Action will begin at 2 and 4 p.m. at Selke Field in St. Cloud.
