Huskies sweep Bemidji State 6-5 and 7-2 in NSIC softball

St. Cloud, Minn. – The St. Cloud State softball team returned to Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) action Tuesday afternoon and came away with a sweep of Bemidji State University, 6-5 and 7-2.
The Huskies improved to 10-22-1 overall and 4-11-1 in the NSIC. Bemidji State dropped to 11-21 overall and 0-16 in league games.
Game 1:
St. Cloud State scored five runs in the bottom of the second inning to take an early 6-0 lead. The Huskies banged out four hits in the inning including a two-run home run from Megan Larkin. An rbi single by Bemidji's Brittany Lenander put the Beavers on the board in the top of third. The score stayed 6-1 until the top of the sixth when the Beavers scored four runs on four hits. An rbi single Nicole Dupay followed by a three-run home run from Cassie MacArthur accounted for the BSU scoring. Larkin and Abby Bunnell each had two hits for the Huskies in the game. Senna Francesconi pitched three innings and struck out three to earn the win.
Game 2:
The Huskies pounded out 14 hits in the night cap and jumped out to a 6-0 lead after three innings. Briana Canova went three-for-four at the plate and scored three runs for the Huskies. Tricia DeBoer, Bunnell, Jessica Goerger and Alyssa Coletto each had two hits. DeBoer drove in two runs in the second inning with a double. Coletto singled in two runs in the third inning. A two run home run by Alayna Krejci in the fourth inning accounted for the Bemidji State scoring. Francesconi pitched four innings and struck out five, earning her second win of the night and evened her record at 6-6. Rebecca Harps pitched five innings of relief in the doubleheader and struck out two batters. Kendra Merritt struck out three batters in two innings of relief. Bunnell and Canova each had four hits for the Huskies in the doubleheader.
St. Cloud State is scheduled to play at the University of Mary on Friday and Minot State on Saturday.
