Huskies Split vs. U-Mary, Defeat Marauders 3-1 and Fall 1-9

Bismarck, North Dakota – The St. Cloud State University softball team returned to Northern Sun Intercollegiate conference (NSIC) action Friday afternoon and came away with a split against the University of Mary, winning 3-1 and falling 1-9.
The Huskies overall record moves to 11-23-1 overall and 5-12-1 in the NSIC. U-Mary moves to 25-17 overall and 18-8 in conference action.
Game One:
The Marauders scored first in game one, taking a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third. The Huskies battled back, scoring two in the top of the fourth off of a two-RBI double by Taylor Thomas (Fontana, Calif.).
The Huskies scored one additional run in the top of the seventh off of a Megan Lehnen (Burnsville) infield RBI groundout to score Alyssa Coletto (Aurora, Ill.).
The Huskies scored three runs off of four hits in the game. Senna Francesconi (Schomberg, Ontario) was the pitcher of record, pitching six complete innings to give up five hits and just one run. Francesconi struck out six.
Game Two:
University of Mary pitcher, Erin Keen, pitched a six-inning no hitter to lead the Marauders to a 9-1 victory in game two.
The Huskies scored one run in the game in the first inning as Jessica Goerger (Mankato) reached on an error to score Abby Bunnell (Maple Grove) for an unearned run.
The Marauders put together eleven hits in the game as both Rebecca Harps (Yucaipa, Calif.) and Kendra Merritt (Fort Lupton, Colo.) saw action on the mound.
The Huskies will return to action tomorrow (Saturday, April 19) as they travel to Minot State University for a doubleheader slated for 1 and 3 p.m.
