SCSU Softball: Huskies Fall to Minot State: 1-10 & 3-11

Minot, North Dakota -- The St. Cloud State University softball team took on Minot State University in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) doubleheader Saturday afternoon in Minot, N.D. The Huskies fell to the Beavers in both games, dropping game one 1-10 and falling in game two 3-11.
The Huskies fall to 11-25-1 overall this season and are now 5-14-1 in the NSIC. Minot State improves to 26-14 overall and 13-9 in conference play.
Game One Recap:
The Huskies got on the board early as Jessica Goerger (Mankato) homered over the center field fence in the top of the first. With a 1-0 advantage heading into the bottom of the inning, Minot State quickly earned the run back on a Jen Dixon homerun followed by an RBI single to take a 2-1 lead.
St. Cloud State was unable to stop the Beaver's offense, allowing them to score three additional runs in the bottom of the third and five runs in the fifth to end the game after five innings with a 1-10 loss.
The Huskies put together just two hits in the game, both by Jessica Goerger. Minot State finished with 10 runs on 10 hits and one St. Cloud State error.
Senna Francesconi (Schomberg, Ontario) was on the mound for the Huskies and the pitcher of record, falling to 7-7 this season. Francesconi gave up ten hits, struck out six and was credited with five earned runs.
Game Two Recap:
The Huskies fell to Minot Sate 3-11 in game two, but were able to put together a few more hits in the game. The Huskies posted three runs on eight hits led by Tricia DeBoer (Blooming Prairie) and Breana Canova (Riverside, Calif.) each collecting two.
The Huskies scored their first run in the top of the fourth on an Emma Hodges (Munster, Indiana) homerun. They scored two additional runs in the top of the fifth as Taylor Thomas (Fontana, Calif.) singled to right field to score Tricia DeBoer followed by a Breana Canova double to score Abby Bunnell (Maple Grove).
Kendra Merritt (Fort Lupton, Colo.) started on the mound for the Huskies pitching 3.2 innings before being relieved by Rebecca Harps (Yucaipa, Calif.). Merritt was credited with the loss.
The Huskies will return to action on Tuesday and Wednesday, April 22 and 23 as they host Minnesota Duluth and Northern State University at home at Selke Field. Wednesday will serve as Senior Day where St. Cloud State seniors Breana Canova and Stephanie Roan will be honored for their careers at St. Cloud State.
