St. Cloud State Soccer signs seven recruits for 2015

St. Cloud State University soccer coach Gretta Arvesen has announced the signing of seven student-athletes to letters of intent to attend St. Cloud State in the fall of 2015 and play soccer for the Huskies.
This group includes Kelli Santo Paulo (West Chicago, Ill./St. Charles East H.S.), Nicole Palsgrove (Maple Grove, Minn./Wayzata H.S.), Kylie Cleary (Colorado Springs, Colo./St. Mary's H.S.), Maria Witte (Batavia, Ill./Rosary H.S.), Maria Kass (Pewaukee, Wisc./Divine Holy Savior Angels H.S.), Lauren Martin (Longmont, Colo./Silver Creek H.S.), and Audrey Clarno (Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata H.S.).
"We are excited to welcome this signing class into our Huskies soccer family. These young women are a talented group and will contribute to the growth of our program on the field, in the classroom and in the St. Cloud community," Arvesen said. "The new Huskies join our program with many outstanding accomplishments and a willingness to help take Huskies soccer to the next level. Kelli Santo PauloKelli Santo Paulo
Height: 5-7
Position: Midfield
Hometown: West Chicago, Ill.
High School: St. Charles East H.S.
A three-time letter winner at St. Charles East H.S., Paulo was part of team that placed second in the IHSA 3A state championships during her junior season. An accomplished club soccer player, Santo Paulo was on Illinois State Cup U16 and U17 finalists squads and a quarterfinalist with the Illinois State Cup U18 team. Her U16 team finished as a regional quarterfinalist and gained a MRL Division title. She is the daughter of Robert and Joellyn Santo Paulo.
"Kelli is a great person on and off the field. She is a very unselfish player who will do whatever it takes for her team to be successful. St Cloud State is very lucky to get her," said, Scott Fonfara, Eclipse Club coach.
Nicole Palsgrove
Nicole Palsgrove
Height: 5-9
Position: Defense
Hometown: Maple Grove, Minn.
High School: Wayzata H.S.
A standout at Wayzata, Palsgrove earned All-Confernce honors in 2013 and 2014. An All-State award winner in 2014 and an All-State Honorable Mention award winner in 2013, Palsgrove received All-Metro second team notice in 2014. She was named Wayzata's Player of the Year in 2013 and was selected as her team's Best Defensive Player in 2014. Palgrove led her high school team to a conference title in 2014 and was part of Wayzata's state title squad in 2012. A member of the Minnesota Thunder Academy club squad, Palsgrove played in the MYSA Premier League in 2013 and 2014 and was part of a USA Cup Runner-Up team in 2013. She is the daughter of Boyd and Nancy Palsgrove.
"Nicole is a solid center back that will do very well at the college level. Tactically she understands what is required of the position and she has the skills necessary to execute any style of play; short build up or more direct. Over the years she has grown more confident in her abilities and that has helped her develop as a organizer and leader on the field. I'm excited to see how good she can be at the next level," said Chris Citowicki, Minnesota Thunder Academy Coach.
Kylie ClearyKylie Cleary
Height 5-6
Position: Forward/Midfield
Hometown: Colorado Springs, Colo.
High School: St. Mary's H.S.
A four-year varsity soccer play at St. Mary's, Cleary earned All-Conference honors three times during her prep career. In her first three seasons at St. Mary's Cleary posted 40 goals and 40 assists and was a All-State Second Team pick as a junior and an All-State Honorable Mention selection as a sophomore. She is a two-time Denver Post All-Colorado Honorable Mention choice and was also named to the Colorado Springs Gazette All-Area team. She was named a Colorado Springs Gazette Peak Performer in May 2014 and has been selected as a MaxPreps Player of the Week throughout her high school career. She an overtime goal to help her team win a conference title in 2014 and she ranked third in the state of Colorado with 19 assists (21 goals, 61 points) last spring. Cleary also plays for the Pride Soccer Club.
A three-year participant in basketball at St. Mary's, Cleary is an honor roll student who has earned a Colorado High School Activities Association Student-Athlete Award along with a National Language Arts Award from the U.S. Achievement Academy. A member of the Drama Club and Link Crew, Cleary has served as a High School Ambassador and has volunteered for the YMCA and Pikes Peak Community Foundation. She is the daughter of Pete and Catherine Cleary.
"Kylie is one of the hardest working and most coachable players that I've had the pleasure of working with. Her speed an explosiveness are the same in the 90th minute as it is to start the match. Above all else, she's a great teammate and student. Maria Witte
Maria Witte
Height: 5-6
Position: Defense/Midfield
Hometown: Batavia, Ill.
High School: Rosary H.S.
A four-time letter winner in soccer, Witte served as a team captain for two seasons at Rosary. She was an All-Conference award winner and also gained All-Area Second Team accolades during her prep career. Her teams at Rosary won three regional titles and a Suburban Christian Conference championship. In addition to her accomplishments in soccer, Witte competed for Rosary's cross country team. A member of the Tri-Cities SA Premier club team, Witte is a five-year captain with her club teams and helped them win a MRL Division championship. An Honor Roll student and Scholar-Athlete award recipient, Witte serves as the president of her high school's Human Rights Club and is secretary of the Social Justice League. She is a member of the French Club, Art Club and Mu Alpha Theta at Rosary. She is the daughter of Michael and Theresa Witte.

Maria Kass
Maria Kass Height: 5-2 Position: Forward
Hometown: Pewaukee, Wisc.
High School: Divine Savior Holy Angel H.S.
Kass was a member of a state championship team at Divine Savior Holy Angel in 2014. She was a first team All-Conference pick in 2014 and was also named to the Best of the Rest Team in 2014. She led her high school team in scoring and was posted the game winning goal in last year's state championship game. An active club soccer player, Kass has played for the SC Waukesha and Lake County United teams. A Father Carl Alberte Scholarship recipient, Kass also received her high school's Excel-a-Thon Leadership award. She is the daughter of Patrick and Maddalena Kass.
"Maria Kass is everything you want in a player-- aggressive,fast, non-stop work rate and has a knack for getting on the end of some great goals. I fully expect her to contribute in a big way at the next level. More importantly she is a great person and teammate-- she will do the extra work on the field without complaining or recognition. Lauren MartinLauren Martin
Height: 5-4
Position: Forward
Hometown: Longmont, Colo.
High School: Silver Creek H.S.
A three-year letter winner at Silver Creek in soccer, Martin has earned All-Conference Honorable Mention status during her prep career. A member of the National Honor Society, Martin lettered in academics as a sophomore and junior at Silver Creek. She is the daughter of Scott and Katie Martin.
"Lauren has been on Silver Creek's varsity since her freshman year, and has a drive and determination that has helped her become a key component of our team's success. She has been asked to fill multiple roles in her four years, and has excelled in all of them. Lauren was voted as a senior captain by her teammates, consistently displaying leadership on and off the field," said coach Pat Montacelli.
Audrey ClarnoAudrey Clarno
Height: 5-4
Position: Defense
Hometown: Plymouth, Minn.
High School: Wayzata H.S.
A two-year letter winner in soccer at Wayzata, Clarno helped lead her team to a Lake Conference championship and was also selected All-Conference Honorable Mention as a prep player. Her club team also gained a state cup championship and regional championship along with being a national tournament participant in 2012. She is the daughter of Russ and Kelly Clarno.
"Audrey is the kind of defender you are just thankful that she is on your team and not your opponent's team. She has speed, is quick to put herself on the line to save a goal, is willing to take a risk to go forward and be a threat on the offensive end, is dependable and as an added bonus she is predominately left-footed. What is most exciting about Audrey is that she has yet to realize her full potential and is extremely coachable. She will be a great asset to her college team and will be fun to watch grow and improve over the next four years," said Becky Merkey, assistant coach at Wayzata H.S.
