SCSU Softball Splits Doubleheader vs. Minot

St. Cloud, Minn. – The St. Cloud State softball team hosted Minot State University in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) match-up. The Huskies defeated the Beavers 3-2 in game one and fell in game two 5-6 in ten innings.
St. Cloud State now stands at 27-25 overall and 13-15 in the NSIC. Minot State is currently 32-19 overall and 13-15 in the conference.
Game One:
The Huskies got on the board first with a triple by Taylor Thomas and a single by Tricia DeBoer. Minot State answered back with two back-to-back homeruns. St. Cloud State scored their final run to win the game with a homerun by Jessica Goerger (Mankato, Minn.)
Alyssa Coletto (Aurora, Ill.) recorded two hits on three at bats.
Kelly Franks (Stevens Point, Wis.) pitched seven innings and improved her record to 13-5. Franks gave up six hits, walked one, and struck out seven batters.
Game Two:
In the top of the first Minot State recorded two homeruns giving them a 3-0 lead. The Huskies followed up with a homerun by Jessica Goerger (Mankato, Minn.) recording 2 RBI. Minot State recorded their third homerun in the top of the third giving them a 4-2 lead. St. Cloud State scored on a triple by Abby Bunnell (Maple Grove, Minn.) and a sing by Taylor Thomas (Fontana, Calif.) in the bottom of the fifth. The Beavers scored in the top of the ninth on a fielder's choice. In the bottom of the ninth, Taylor Thomas (Fontana, Calif.) doubled to tie the score 5-5. Minot would score their final run in the top of the tenth on a single. The Huskies were three up, three down in the bottom of the tenth.
Jessica Goerger (Mankato, Minn.) hit three of four from behind the plate. Goerger recorded two RBI and one homerun.
Megan Hedstrom (Palatine, Ill.) pitched four innings for the Huskies. Hedstrom gave up three hits, walked three, and struck out three batters.
St. Cloud State will return to action tomorrow afternoon at 12/2 p.m. to take on the University of Mary. The Marauders are currently 24-27 overall and 13-12 in the NSIC.
