SCSU Softball Sweeps U-Mary, 7-0 & 5-1

St. Cloud, Minn. – The St. Cloud State softball team hosted the University of Mary in their final regular season match-up. The Huskies swept the Marauders in a doubleheader winning game one 7-0 and game two 5-1.
St. Cloud State improves to 29-25 overall and 15-15 in the NSIC. The University of Mary falls 24-31 overall and 13-16 in the conference.
Game One:
St. Cloud State pitcher, Kelly Franks (Stevens Point, Wis.) pitched a seven inning no hitter to lead the Huskies to a 7-0 victory in game one.
The Huskies scored two runs in the first on a wild pitch and a single by Tricia DeBoer (Blooming Prairie, Minn.). In the third inning Tricia DeBoer (Blooming Prairie, Minn.) single again for an RBI. St. Cloud State scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth and their final run in the bottom of the sixth.
Tricia DeBoer (Blooming Prairie, Minn.) finished with two hits, one run, and two RBI.
Abby Bunnell (Maple Grove, Minn.) recorded two hits, two runs, and two stolen bases for St. Cloud State.
Kelly Franks (Stevens Point, Wis.) struck out 17 batters on 21 at bats.
The Huskies finished with nine hits, four RBI, and two stolen bases.
Game Two:
The Huskies got on the board first with a grand slam by Jessica Goerger (Mankato, Minn.) giving St. Cloud State a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first. In the bottom of the second, Taylor Thomas (Fontana, Calif.) grounded out allowing Alyssa Coletto to score (Aurora, Ill.). U-Mary scored their only run of the day in the top of the sixth.
Jessica Goerger (Mankato, Minn.) finished with one hit and four RBI.
Kelly Franks (Stevens Point, Wis.) pitched six innings in game two. Franks now moves to 15-5 for the season. She gave up two hits and struck out 11 batters.
St. Cloud State will return to action this week as they travel to Sioux Falls, SD to compete in the 2015 NSIC/ US Bank Softball Tournament.
