St. Cloud State women's tennis advances to NSIC tourney semifinals

The St. Cloud State University women's tennis team advanced to the semifinals of the 2017 NSIC Championships with a big 5-4 victory over #2 seed Upper Iowa on Saturday, April 22 in Minnetonka, Minn.

The victory continues the Huskies' season and provides them with a match at 8 a.m. against Winona State, which posted a 5-2 win over Bemidji State in the Warriors' first round match. The matches are being played at the Lifetime Fitness Tennis Center in Minnetonka.

In action against Upper Iowa, the Huskies opened the day with wins at second and third doubles to take a 2-1 edge. At second doubles, Alexie Portz and Jill Kedrowski gained an 8-5 win, while Sommer Kopff and Fernanda Santos rolled to a 9-8 (7-5) win at third singles.

On the singles side, the Huskies collected three wins at third singles, fourth singles and sixth singles. At third singles, Fernanda Quintino Santos scored a 5-7, 6-3 (6-2) victory while Jill Kedrowski charted a 6-2, 6-2 victory at fourth singles. To ice the win, Ann Marie White defeated UIU's Brenna Heichert by a 6-4, 6-2 mark.

The victory improves SCSU's season record to 12-7.
