St. Cloud State soccer announces new recruits for 2019

Five student athletes have signed National Letters of intent to join the St. Cloud State University soccer program, head coach Gretta Arvesen announced Wednesday, Nov. 14. The group will join the Huskies in the fall for the upcoming 2019 season.
The signing class includes Juliana Da Silva (Winnipeg, Mant./Garden City Collegiate), Jenna Dominguez (Geneva, Ill./Geneva H.S.), Evie Kohn (West Lakeland, Minn./Stillwater H.S.), Grace Padelford (St. Paul, Minn./Mahtomedi H.S.) and Kira Sosinske (Savage, Minn./Burnsville H.S.).
Da Silva served as starting team captain and lead her team to a KPAC Championship and a Provincial Championship in 2017. A member of the Manitoba Blizzard soccer club, Da Silva helped her club team win the City Soccer Championship in 2016 and 2017 along with a Provincial Soccer Championship in 2016, finishing as a silver medalist in the national tournament that season.
A talented multi-sport athlete, Da Silva played field hockey in high school and helped her team win a conference a provincial championship. She also lettered in water polo and was on her school's team that won a bronze medal at the 2016-17 city championships. As a member of the track and field team, Da Silva set conference records in the 1200 meter run and the triple jump and was a first-place award winner in cross country.
Da Silva intends to major in Athletic Training at SCSU. She is the daughter of Cristie and George Da Silva.
When asked why she chose St. Cloud State Da Silva said, "I chose SCSU for the positive learning environment on campus and within the team, the immediate connection with the coach and the girls as well as it's close to home. I'm excited to graduate with an athletic degree while playing the sport I love and building relationships that will last a lifetime."
Jenna Dominguez // Geneva, Ill. // Geneva Community High School
Dominguez is a three-year letter winner and earned All-Section and All-Conference honors in 2016, 2017 and 2018. She is a 3x Daily Herald All-Area team award winner for the Vikings and is the recipient of her school's Golden Boot award for scoring 24 goals in 2018. Dominguez helped Geneva win regional titles in 2017 and 2018 along with a conference title in 2017.
A member of the Campton United club team, Dominguez helped that team win Illinois State Cup titles in 2017-18, a National League Black Division championship in 2017 and a USYS national finalist spot in 2017.
Dominguez intends to major in special education at SCSU. She is the daughter of Jan and Heriberto Dominguez.
When asked why she chose St. Cloud State Dominguez shared, "I chose SCSU soccer because it was the best fit for me. The coaching staff is wonderful and will push me to my limits. I plan to study Special Education, and I am excited to be a part of a wonderful team and program, being able to play at the collegiate level and getting my education and degree."
Evie Kohn // West Lakeland, Minn. // Stillwater Area High School
A four-year starter at Stillwater Area High School, Kohn served as a team captain for the Ponies as a junior and senior. She earned two All-Conference Honorable Mention awards and two All-Conference awards during her prep playing career, while recording 39 career shutouts at Stillwater. In 2018, Kohn helped her squad reach the MSHSL state tournament at U.S. Bank Stadium.
As a club player, Kohn has been a mainstay on goal for St. Croix Academy, White Bear Lake Scorpions and the Eclipse Soccer Club.
She intends to major in special education at St. Cloud State and she is the daughter of, two St. Cloud State Alumni, Richard and Susan Kohn.
When asked why she chose St. Cloud State Kohn shared, "I chose to play for the Huskies because the team is so welcoming, along with the coach. When I went for a visit, it just felt like I was at home. SCSU has also been home to several of my family members so now I can carry that legacy on. I am thinking about going into special education and elementary teaching. I am most excited to gain a great education and hopefully come out with a career I love."
Grace Padelford // St. Paul, Minn. // Mahtomedi High School
A three-time letterwinner at Mahtomedi High School, Padelford helped her team win MSHSL Class A championships in 2017 and 2018. She is a two-time All-Conference and All-State award winner at Mahtomedi and was named to the MSHSL All-Tournament team in 2018. In 2017, Padelford scored the winning goal in the MSHSL championship game played at U.S. Bank Stadium.
Padelford played for the White Bear Lake Soccer Club Scorpions team and will complete her senior year competing with the Eclipse Soccer Club.
Padelford is undecided on her intended major, but excited to explore the academic possibilities SCSU has to offer. She is the daughter of Maija and James Padelford.
When asked why she chose St. Cloud State Padelford stated, "St. Cloud State seems like the perfect place where I can continue my career and athletic path. I am excited to find a subject to study that I love and want to continue the rest of my life."
Kira Sosinske // Savage, Minn. // Burnsville High School
A three-time letterwinner in soccer at Burnsville High School. Sosinske was named her team's Outstanding Midfielder in 2016 and 2017 and was selected as Burnsville's Outstanding Defender in 2018. She gained All-Conference Honorable Mention notice in 2016 and was selected for All-Conference accolades in 2017 and 2018 at Burnsville H.S. Sosinske also lettered one season in basketball as a prep athlete.
Sosinske played club soccer with the Burnsville Fire and most recently with Maplebrook Soccer Club out of Maple Grove. She was a mainstay, in the back line, as her team won the 2018 MN State Cup Championship and advanced to compete at Region Championships.
She intends to major in engineering or science at SCSU. Sosinske is the daughter of Natalie and Jim Sosinske.
When asked why she chose St. Cloud State Sosinske shared, "I chose Huskies Soccer because I felt welcome and the program felt right for me.
