SCSU soccer edged by Northern Michigan, 2-0

A pair of second half goals provided Northern Michigan (1-1-0) with the edge it needed to gain a 2-0 victory over host St. Cloud State University (0-1-1) in non-conference soccer action at Husky Stadium in St. Cloud, Minn. on Sunday, Sept. 8.
The Huskies and Wildcats battled to a close 0-0 draw after the first half of play before NMU scored the first goal of the afternoon at 50:45 on a tally by Jamie Montgomery with a solo assist to Natalie Stampfly. NMU iced the victory later in the second half with its second goal of the day with a score by Kaitlynn Benson at 77:13. Stampfly also had the solo assist on the play.
SCSU managed to outshot the Wildcats 11-10 in the game, which included six shots on target for the Huskies. In the game, SCSU netkeeper Zoe Welsh had six saves and NMU's Brianne Frontulo had six saves and the shutout win. On offense, SCSU was paced by Claire Shea, Kira Sosinske and Tatyana Gusakow with two shots apiece.
St. Cloud State will continue its season opening five-game homestand with a match at Husky Stadium against defending NCAA DII national champs University of Bridgeport on Saturday, Sept. 14 at 11 a.m. Tickets for this key showdown are available at the gate on game day and all SCSU students get in FREE with a valid ID card. Of note, SCSU students get into all regular season home athletic events for FREE throughout 2019-20.
