
Huskies battle in loss to Augustana

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The St. Cloud State University women's tennis team battled in its third Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) match of the 2021 season. Despite a valiant effort, the Huskies fell to Augustana University in Sioux Falls, South Dakota 7-0.Â
St. Cloud State suffered three losses in doubles play in the opening portion of the match to fall behind 1-0. No. 1 team of Jill Kedrowski (St. Cloud, Minn. / Tech) and Shanna Kinney (Litchfield, Minn. / Litchfield) nearly took down the Vikings team of Valeyria Monko and Flore Hadjigeorgiou , but a break resulted in a 6-3 loss.Â
The Huskies team Frances Hina Goldsmith (Honolulu, Hawaii / Dixie State) and Olivia Fredrickson fell 6-1 at the No. 2 doubles slot while the No. 3 team of Kylee Frisbee (Foley, Minn. / Foley) and Sam Fitzpatrick (Rogers, Minn. / Rogers) fell 6-2.Â
St. Cloud State tried to rally a comeback in singles play, but Augustana took all six matches to win the duel 7-0. No. 6 singles player Emma Brunkow (Lake City, Minn. / Lake City) nearly took a set from Grace Goble before falling 6-3, 6-0. Kedrowski also took two games from Margarita Chouliara in the opening set before falling 6-2, 6-0.Â
No. 2 Fitzpatrick fell to Hadjigeorgiou 6-1, 6-0, while Goldsmith and Frisbee fell at the No. 1 and No. 5 singles slots 6-0, 6-0.
With the loss, the Huskies record now stands at 1-2 with a 1-2 record in NSIC play. St. Cloud State will face the University of Sioux Falls Sunday at 9 a.m. in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.Â
