DULUTH, MINN. - The St. Cloud State University tennis team is on fire. Not literally, obviously, but the Huskies are riding a three-match win streak thanks to their 7-0 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) victory over the University of Minnesota-Crookston Saturday afternoon.Â
St. Cloud State beat the Golden Eagles without dropping a single set, as the Huskies dominated in all facets of the game on Saturday. In fact, St. Cloud State dropped just one game in doubles play, as all three teams won handily to earn an early point for the Huskies. The No. 1 team of Shanna Kinny (Litchfield, Minn. / Litchfield) and Francis Hina Goldsmith (Honolulu, Hawaii / Dixie State) defeated Minnesota-Crookston's team of Tasha Achermann and Michelle Swyter by a score of 6-1, while both St. Cloud State's No. 2 and 3 doubles teams won without dropping a game. New duo of Jill Kedrowski (St. Cloud, Minn. / St. Cloud Tech) and Kylee Frisbie (Foley, Minn. / Foley) beat Ashley Chomyn and Gabriela Pinto 6-0, while No. 3 team of Samantha Fitzpatrick (Rogers, Minn. / Rogers) and Emma Brunkow (Lake City, Minn. / Lake City) won their doubles match by an identical score.Â
The Huskies were just as dominant in singles play, as every student-athlete won in straight sets Saturday afternoon. Fitzpatrick, Kedrowski, Kinny and Frisbie all won their respective singles matches without dropping a game, downing their opponents by identical scores of 6-0, 6-0. No. 1 singles player Goldsmith extended her month-long win-streak with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Achermann, while Ellen Baranczyk (Rochester, Minn. / Mayo) returned to the line up with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Pinto as St. Cloud State's No. 6 singles player.
Thanks to the win, the Huskies extend their win streak to three consecutive matches and improve their overall record to 4-6 with a 2-5 mark in NSIC play. St. Cloud State will look to extend its win streak on Sunday as the team takes on Bemidji State at 9 a.m. in Duluth, Minnesota.
