
St. Cloud State Women’s Soccer Adds Nine to Class of 2023

Huskies adds nine recruits from five states
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – St. Cloud State Women's Soccer announced the addition of nine early signees to the Class of 2023 who chose to continue their academic and athletic careers at St. Cloud State University. Head Coach Gretta Arvesen and assistant coach Jade Smith added future Huskies from the states of Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, Ohio and Michigan. The talented group has earned numerous all-conference and all-state honors and are currently competing with elite regional club teams.
"We are excited to officially welcome the 2023 class to Huskies Soccer," said Arvesen. "This class is committed to our program's core values and ready to make a difference on and off the field for our program. We are eager to integrate the diversity of strengths and exceptional character to Husky nation. Please join us in welcoming the early signees in the class of 2023. Go Huskies!"
Kayla Allen – Midfielder – Holmen, Wis. – Rush Wisconsin West
A three-year varsity letter award winner and first-team all-conference honoree at Holmen High School in Holmen, Wis., Kayla Allen joins the St. Cloud State Women's Soccer program as a midfielder. At the club level, Allen played two seasons with the Rush Select Team where she helped her team win a Mississippi Valley Storm (MVS) State League Championship and one season with Rush Wisconsin West where the team won the Midwest Conference Division Championship. Allen also played three years of basketball and was an honor roll recipient each year at Holmen High School.
Cady Compton – Midfielder – Ankeny, Iowa – VSA Girls Academy
Midfielder Cady Compton comes to St. Cloud from Ankeny, Iowa where she earned numerous conference and state recognition at Ankeny Centennial High School. As a junior in 2022, Compton was a first-team conference selection, second-team all-district selection and second-team all-state honoree, and helped her team win the state championship. She also earned conference academic and all-state academic recognition for her efforts in the classroom. At the club level, Compton played for Iowa Rush, VSA and VSA Rush where she won a State Cup Championship and played in a National 11 at the President's Cup.
Zoey Fanter – Forward – Norwalk, Iowa – Sporting Iowa ECNL
Forward Zoey Fanter has earned three second-team all-state honors and three conference academic award honors at Valley High School in Norwalk, Iowa. Over the last two seasons, she has started 35 games and played in 40, scoring 15 goals and seven assists while leading her team to the high school state championship in 2020-21. At the club level, Fanter plays for Sporting Iowa, ODP and made the GA VSA Rush Select Team.
Grace McLaughlin – Defense – Cedarburg, Wis. – North Shore United
A three-time state finalist from Cedarburg High School in Cedarburg, Wis., Grace McLaughlin joins the Huskies as a defender. After her team finished as runner-up at the state tournament in 2020 and 2021, McLaughlin helped Cedarburg to a state championship in 2022. At the club level with North Shore United, she helped lead her team to a runner-up finish at the 2022 Midwest Regional Championship and participated in the National League Pro in the 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons.
Ana Spaine – Defense – West Des Moines, Iowa – Sporting Iowa ECNL
A defender from West Des Moines, Iowa, Ana Spaine helped Valley High School capture the 2021 state championship and finish runner-up in 2022. She earned all-state tournament team award recognition in 2021, and first-team all-conference and all-state honors in 2022. As a member of the basketball team, she was a state semi-finalist in 2022 earned all-conference honorable mention honors. In the classroom, she earned a National Honors Society certification and all-academic honors in 2020-22. At the club level, she was a member of Vision Soccer Academy, as they won state championships in 2018 and 2019, and were regional tournament qualifiers in 2019-22.
Jaylee Strickland – Goalkeeper – Columbus, Ohio – Ohio Premier ECNL
A three-year varsity letter award winner and team captain, goalkeeper Jaylee Strickland comes to St. Cloud State form Dublin, Ohio. She was named her team's Defensive Player of the year after leading Dublin Jerome High School to a 13-1-1 mark in the regular season. In the classroom, she has been named to the honor roll each semester, is a member of the Superintendent Advisory Committee and the National Honors Society.
Linsey Trapino – Forward – Verona, Wis. – Madison 56ers
A forward from Verona High School in Verona, Wis., Linsey Trapino earned first team all-conference and all-state honorable mention honors in her prep career. In her junior season, she scored 15 goals and five assists while leading her team to a No. 6 state ranking at the end of the season. Trapino was also a member of the golf team and the National Honors Society. At the club level, she has played five years for Wisconsin Elite and the Madison 56ers.
Allyssa Williams – Midfielder – Winona, Minn. – Southern Minnesota Select
A six-year starter at Winona Cotter High School, midfielder Allyssa Williams joins the Huskies from Winona, Minn. At Cotter, Williams earned five all-conference honors, two all-area first team honors and two all-state honors. She was also named the All-Area Player of the Year, a 2022 Ms. Soccer Class 'A' nominee and was a two-time Offensive Player of the Year at Cotter. Her career stats rank among the best all-time, as she ranks first in assists (76) and sixth in points (164). She also earned all-conference and all-area recognition on the basketball team. In the classroom, she is an A-Honor Roll, two-time soccer academic all-state honoree and one-time basketball academic all-state honoree. At the club level, she plays for Southern Minnesota Select.
Gabrielle Zugel – Forward – Plainwell, Mich. – TKO Premier
Forward Gabrielle Zugel from Plainwell, Mich., is a four-year letter winner from Plainwell High School. In her junior and senior seasons, she earned first-team all-conference, first-team all-district and third-team all-state honors. At the club level, she currently plays for TKO Premier.
